May 15th is Asphalt Day, so today we're celebrating the hard-working folks who build and repair our asphalt roads. Laying asphalt can involve long days and hard work, but it’s rewarding. Our asphalt crews can build roads that are often reopened to traffic within hours or by the next day, a testament to the craft and efficiency behind every project. Last week, Milestone and @USAggregates sponsored @boonecountysolidwaste 's Beautify Boone Cleanup! Team members gathered in Thorntown to pick up litter on the Big 4 Trail and around town, joining over 700 volunteers working throughout the community to #BeautifyBoone. 🌞 A big thank you to everyone who helped out! The day went by quickly, and we look forward to helping again next year.

It's Construction Safety Week! Milestone is committed to safety at all times through our Think Safe, Work Safe commitment. Our commitment to safety is built on three key pillars: a proactive mindset, safe practices and continuous improvement. Proactive Mindset: Safety starts before the task. A proactive mindset helps prevent incidents before they happen, because one thoughtful moment can protect a life. Safe Practices: Safety is a choice we make with every task. By following procedures, using the right gear and having the courage to speak up when something’s off, we create a culture where safe work is the only way we work. Continuous Improvement: Every experience is a chance to get better. We reflect, share and act on what we learn, because improving safety is a team effort that never stops. Together, we can build a safer, stronger industry as we think safe and work safe. #ConstructionSafetyWeek

“Work zones are our employees’ offices, and the traveling public plays a critical role in keeping our offices safe,” says Chad Scott, Milestone’s Vice President of Safety, Health and Environmental Management. “We are asking drivers to slow down, put down your phones, stay focused and respect every work zone – safe and focused driving saves lives.” Wondering how to take safer actions this National Work Zone Awareness Week (and every week)? 🤫Put your phone on "Do Not Disturb" once you're in the car 📵Don't scroll while you drive, at stoplights, or in slow moving traffic ⚠️Pay attention to the posted speed limit, and slow down in work zones Safety in work zones requires visibility, vigilance and responsibility from both our crews and the traveling public. Work zones are where Milestone's people work, and every driver on the road plays a role in keeping them safe. We urge drivers to stay alert and slow down in work zones, as safety requires responsibility from both our crews and the traveling public. National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 20-24) is an opportunity to elevate awareness and strengthen safe driving habits. Remember, safe actions save lives. #NWZAW #SafeWorkZonesForAll

We believe it's important to invest in future construction leaders by promoting educational opportunities, which is why we donated a 2017 Cat 259D track loader to the Civil & Construction Trades Program at @Columbia_city_hs . Practice operating heavy construction equipment will give students hands-on experience and essential skills as they consider what types of work they may be interested in after graduation. “This program is doing a great job of setting students up for success in the industry, and having support from industry leaders like Milestone makes a big difference,” says general superintendent Chad Baker. “I’m proud to work for a company that invests in the future of our industry.” Read more about the program and the donation: /news/investing-in-the-future-of-the-construction-workforce/
