Behind the camera, photographing every Burton Custom for its 30-year anniversary feature in @snowboardmag ?! This was a lot of fun to piece together at @burton headquarters last Spring, and it was really incredible seeing all 30 boards lined up together. So much history, and so many iconic graphics. Huge thanks to Burton’s archivist @tkohlman for wrangling all of the boards, and the work he does behind the scenes taking care of so many of snowboarding’s awesome artifacts.

This past winter, we packed up some of the best carving boards and headed to the peaks and pistes of Switzerland, where we linked up with carving artists @dariafuchs and @raphi_rocha to slice and dice in front of the camera. Thousands of resorts around the globe prepare a perfect canvas nightly, just waiting for a carver’s interpretation, and unlike rails and jumps, carving favors no particular age or demographic. Enjoy this visual exploration from our time together, photographed entirely on medium- and large format @ilfordphoto black and white film which was purchased locally at @camerastore_zurich .

Local mountains and their unique vibes heavily influence a snowboarding brand’s DNA. If Brand X is based in the Alps, you’d expect a product line of stiff, fast boards. Brand Y from SoCal? Get ready to get on some park boards. @romesnowboards , however, resides in a bit of a geographical anomaly. Just a thirty-minute drive from their HQ, you can hit the slopes of three incredible, diverse resorts.
Barely 19 miles south, Sugarbush routinely builds one of North America’s best terrain parks, boasting hundreds of features. A quick 16 miles north, Stowe’s steep pitches and hike-access sidecountry offer some of the Northeast’s premier freeride terrain. And just 12 miles west, Bolton Valley’s chill, cruisey groomers, side hits, and night riding create a vibe all their own.
These are the proving grounds where Rome puts its latest gear to the test. One morning, a binding’s highback might be taking shape on a 3D printer at Rome’s Waterbury office. That very evening, it’s being put through the paces at Bolton. Any necessary tweaks can be made the next morning, reprinted, and re-ridden the following night. Been reminiscing about this awesome adventure all week. Had the pleasure of being a fly on the wall at last year’s Home Break, the brain child of @taylor_gold at his home resort of Steamboat Springs, CO. The park crew did an incredible job taking their halfpipe, and sculpting it into a platform which allowed for more creativity to ride and also photograph. Definitely an incredible experience. Huge thanks to Taylor, @jeffurbahn and @tpelley for the hospitality.
Home Break 3 has been going down this past week, and the content that is already circulating from it is even more outside of the box. Can’t wait to see the final images and video!
