Happy spring! Today was spent in the garden, getting milkweed plants back into the ground for spring. This is your reminder to plant milkweed in your garden this planting season! I also cleared out the overgrown grasses from the monarch enclosure so people can walk easily inside once again. Thank you to my mom @deirdremcsc and Carol (the garden’s permaculture expert) for all the help 💚
As monarchs age, they lose the scales on their wings, and eventually will pass away. It’s both uplifting and sad to see a monarch like this one. I think the wear and tear is the sign of a life well lived.
It’s official, folks! Migration will be open an extra few weeks (as long as I’m finding caterpillars!) All the chrysalises in the enclosure have hatched and been released and I have about 30 more caterpillars that are very, very hungry and growing up quickly. More chrysalises will be added into the enclosure in the coming days!
I’ve been finding several caterpillars on my plants every day, so keep an eye out.
Found a pretty big caterpillar in the garden today 💗 it’s that time of year! If you have milkweed keep your eyes peeled for eggs and areas where your plants have been eaten
