So you’ve probably heard of midcentury modern, but what the heck is midpractical modern?
When you break down and look at the definition of each part of ‘midpractical modern’, essentially it’s an approach to living in the middle of today’s world in a way that is moderate and balanced.
A midpractical modern lifestyle is a way to balance the functional and fun, plan for the time, funds, or effort you need to accomplish your tasks and goals, and adjust and tweak the approach to what works for you ✨
👋 Hi! I’m Regi Strauss! I am the lady behind the curtain of Midpractical Modern ☺️
I love to learn, find solutions, and share experiences with others so that others can do the same. I started Midpractical Modern to share my experiences and show that, with a bit of planning, preserverance and midpracticality (and yes, some fun too!) you can achieve any project, goal or habit you put your mind to.
In my downtime, I love reading, puzzling, hanging out with my pup and husband, and finding the best places to wine and dine 🍷🍽️
Whether we’ve met IRL, are just friends on social media or haven’t met yet, I’d love to hear from you! If you’ve got questions, ideas, suggestions…send them my way! .

Meet Theo 🐾
We rescued this derpy 4-year old from @pawsandprayerspetrescue last week and we are just loving on him and love having him around.
His former name was Mellow and he definitely lives up to it, as you can tell by the photos 🤪
Endless thanks to @pawsandprayerspetrescue that took care of Theo the last 2 years (!!!). We promise to keep loving on him for the rest of his life ❤️

You are gonna want to swipe all the way right for this kitchen update 🐾
We designed a whole area for a dog so of course we had to get one!
Meet Theo! He’s a 4-year old derpy rescue and we already love him so much 🩷 A proper post will be dedicated to all the many areas he loves to sleep in our house 🤪

All that glitters is gold(en) ✨
Feeling a bit like Midas with all these delicate touches of gold throughout the kitchen.
Looking forward to a full reveal of ALL the details once we get a date for the replacement cabinets!

A moment for the countertops and the rivers of minerals that run through them.
We went with Mont Blanc quartzite for its clean look and durability. I think it complements both wall and floor tile well!
Special shout out to @contrast_interiordesign for designing us a custom oven ledge using this material and @graniteworksstone for making sure the installation was safe and secure.
The last few slides are the options we didn’t go with. If you think we made the wrong choice well…good thing it’s not your kitchen 😉
Pour me a glass of those cabinets 🍷
It just so happened that the cabinet color @contrast_interiordesign ended up choosing for us was @sherwinwilliams Sommelier, which is great for us wine lovers. And we are loving the look of it in this kitchen (it’s showing its legs 🤪)
Up to this point, I’ve shared mostly the wins of this project. The last two photos are some of the…hiccups…we’ve encountered during construction 😵💫 And unfortunately most of the upper cabinets have to be re-ordered so final reveal of the kitchen won’t happen until those arrive and are installed, probably not until May 😭
I’ll put a cork in it for now (I just can’t help myself with the puns). But more updates coming soon!
If these walls could talk they would say “we’ll look better with cabinets” 😜
Another phase complete, more updates coming soon

The crucifixion of a kitchen 🪦
Reflecting on the progress of our kitchen renovation journey, now that we are over halfway through it.
Things I’m not going to miss:
- the mismatched backsplash
- the tiny opening near the side door
- the dining room closet (we reclaimed this space for the kitchen!)
- the falling-apart cabinets and drawers
- that weird design in the floor tile
- the drafty entry door
More updates coming soon and very soon 👀
