MOTHERCRAFT comes out of years of putting one foot in front of the other and praying to make it...years of reaching out to other creative mothers and being reached out to...all of us trying and making a way.
MOTHERCRAFT is devoted to uplifting, resourcing, and connecting Detroit's artist mothers who are already shaping culture with their magic.
I want the brilliance born at the intersection of creation and caregiving to be more widely celebrated, resourced, amplified, and given the visibility it has long deserved.
MOTHERCRAFT stands firm on the foundation that motherhood and artistry together are an unstoppable, necessary force.
Thank you to co-mothering this with me @feigleylee_studio and to the wildly generous and supportive creative mothers @lisauve_@vanderdetroit@samara.furlong@buffaloprescott
It is often the case that the spaces and places I go in the process of making are the practice.

๐๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ฒ! ๐ Today we are looking at how art can help us tackle the modern plague of plastic waste and spark a deeper commitment to our planet.
Featuring her 2021 โAt Our Tableโ installation, Reboot network member and artist Olivia Guterson reimagines the Passover table using locally sourced, discarded single-use plastics. Her work serves as a powerful Earth Day reminder of our responsibility as Shomrei Adamah, the guardians and protectors of the earth.

Artist Olivia Guterson reflects on her process: โA big part of my process and practice is surrender. What I create comes from a place of being in flow and deep listening, letting my hands lead, and seeking to turn off my brain. This is a challenge because a large part of the process is quick, messy gestures that accumulate and because I work intuitively, I have no idea how it will turn out. I deal with the challenge of surrendering to the process by knowing that for me creating is more important than the outcome and so being present along the way is vital.โโ

Thinking about nurturing a creative practice that is a conscious process of dismantling negative behaviors, selfish ego, and fears that obscure the divine spark in myself. What might be possible/available/present when cultivating an attunement to revealing the light within struggles? What is/are the responsibilities of a creative person who makes communal offerings?
