Ten years ago I was putting on warehouse parties in Melbourne, Australia under the moniker @kontaktcollective .
These pictures were taken from one of the nights we did in a location that got used semi-regularly for these types of things, located somewhere in the Docklands. It was a massive warehouse and you could have easily fit a couple of thousand people in there. We might have got 100 on the night.
Looking back it seems mad to think I shipped all my sound and lighting kit halfway around the world to put on parties in a different hemisphere, not really knowing what to expect. Luckily Melbourne had a good atmosphere for it. A good mix of both native partygoers and Europeans stopping in on their travels, both looking for a good dance in a disused warehouse. It helped that the police were normally pretty lenient.
Even though we only got around 100 in attendance on this particular night, it was worth it. We were bringing good people together to dance to good music in an environment which was pretty freeing.
That chapter has been and gone, but in just under three weeks on Friday 15th May we open a new one at @hagglers_corner_ as Midnight Express. Hagglers' space is much more intimate than that massive warehouse in Melbourne, but really the ethos hasn't changed and a little bit of that free party spirit lives on.
The DJs start from 9pm in the bar. It's free entry before 10pm and £5 OTD after.
It's time to dance once more.

We didn’t start this to chase trends. We started it because we believe in something.
Midnight Express is a new club night launching at Hagglers Corner in Sheffield on Friday 15th May. We are three friends who love music deeply and want to share it with people who feel the same way. This has been a long time coming for us.
We exist because we believe music deserves to be heard properly – in the right space, at the right volume, played by people who genuinely care about what they’re playing. The dancefloor has always been where social barriers dissolve, where strangers become friends, and where the right record at the right moment can feel like something close to magic. We want to create that space.
Musically, we are rooted in house. We’re calling our sound Propa Bumping House – which is exactly what it is. Expect the night to start on the deeper end of the spectrum and build steadily through to full-on dancefloor bumpers to finish off. Shades of disco and techno mixed in around the edges. We are serious about the music, not about ourselves.
Our residents will be on the decks all night from 9pm. Free entry before 10, so come early, get a drink, talk to a stranger, and let the music do the rest.
A local scene only survives if people invest in it. We intend to.
It’s time to dance.
