To help guide the success of the students, MCC created the Dental Peer Mentoring Program for individuals in the dental hygiene program completing their final year to mentor new students.
“Having a mentor/mentee experience is valuable because it provides support and friendship,” said Victoria Yashyn, an MCC dental hygiene student. “Having someone that you can ask questions, advice, and vent to is very important to have in this program. I think one of the biggest attributes that a mentor can have is to show support! I like to encourage my mentee with positive words.”

MCC is proud to name Victoria Makumbi the 2026 Distinguished Alum. The Tax and Financial Senior Accountant at The Kraft Group and Affiliates, she will speak to the graduating class during the commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 21.
“I am deeply honored and genuinely excited. I hope that my story inspires at least one student to believe in themselves and to never give up on their goals. It's like a church sermon, not every word is meant for every person, but sometimes you hear that one thing that lights a fire in you and gives you hope. If I can be that for even one person, it means everything.”
