Women Who Woodfire — Clay Gulgong 2026
Eighteen talented women woodfiring artists showcased their work at the Pioneers Museum, presented alongside the permanent collection and the Masters Exhibition. This unique exhibition highlighted the skill, creativity, and innovation of women working with woodfired ceramics.

A huge thank you to Bernadette from@Clay Gulgong for the opportunity to exhibit, Scotty from the Pioneer Museum for his amazing help with lighting and setup, and Venessa Skye for all her support from concept to completion—and, of course, for all the laughs.
To the 18 amazing established and emerging woodfirers, your work was truly admired by all. You continue to inspire and contribute to the growth of Women Who Woodfire, paving the way for an even larger presentation in 2028.
In the lead up to our Bangalow Ceramics Market, we will be profiling each of the potters that are part of our May 9 event.
First up is local superstar, Venessa Skye, from @venessa_stella_skye and @middle_pocket_pottery
Woodfired functional ware is the focus of my making. Unique pieces that have a depth of character, quality and spirit. All of my work is woodfired for over 100Hrs in my Anagama kiln in Middle Pocket. The kiln is of an ancient Japanese design, and leaves pieces embedded with markings of flame and ash deposits. A labour of love, timeless.

The North Coast Ceramics Award celebrates excellence in ceramic art, with a $3000 prize recognising outstanding achievement in the field.
Open to ceramic artists across Australia, this is a chance to showcase your work and be part of a national celebration of ceramic creativity and craftsmanship. Entries close 1 December 2025.
I had the ultimate privilege of being part of Simon Levin's COHORTS mentorship program this year. The development in all aspects of my practice and development was incredible. I can thoroughly recommend it. From forms, artistic voice, website development, a well of knowledge!
