My oldest is headed to college soon, so I made her a magnet from a mint tin to remind her of home and the beach here (her favorite place). The front is a map from an old atlas with a tiny rhinestone to mark Evanston. The sides of the tin are washi tape (why isn't washi tape better at being tape??) The interior has painted stirring sticks, popsicle sticks, beach sand (from our porch, thanks kid.) There are sea shells, sea glass, and a mini figure from Japan that I repainted to look like a lifeguard, her job for the last three years. I don't know what you'd call this-- collage? Mosaic? It's a Dollar Tree sign covered with cotton cord, Mod Podge, paint, and loads of beads, stones, sea glass, jump rings, rhinestones, and who knows what else.
