If I am to play any part in your legacy it will be a daily consideration of WWJD. (What would Joan Do?). You are the embodiment of calm and measured love, and the toughest woman I know. Thank you for paving the way, for teaching my dad to be such a good man, and for the countless fish fries. A toast to you, Joan, for making all this possible.

The opposite of depression is vitality, not happiness. If you’re ever feeling like you’re slipping into a depressive state, the best way to combat it is to move: do some volunteer work, give 5 dollars to someone on the street, hold the door open for a stranger, ask someone how their day was and then really listen while they tell you. Or even something for yourself like going to the gym or making your bed. There is no better antidote for self-deprecating thoughts is to create tangible evidence to contrast those thoughts. “I’m don’t take care of myself”- go on a run or make a healthy meal. “I am selfish”- donate time to someone else. Sometimes you can’t control your thoughts, but you can always control your actions.

It’s known that depression breeds stagnancy, but it’s much less often talked about how stagnancy also manifests from trying to hold onto happiness. What do we do when we can’t “stay happy?” Check out episode 9 of “Art Is Not Sacred” with Rafi Silver to hear his thoughts on how mindfulness meditation is one of the greatest tools for working through the pendulum of our daily emotions. #mindfulness #meditation #art #acting

Your insecurities are your superpower- the thread connecting you to everyone else. That fear of vulnerability is our greatest commonality, and when we overcome that fear- by sharing our artwork, being honest with a friend, telling someone we love them, admitting fault- we give someone else the invitation to overcome it as well. . . . . . #art #lifecoach #coaching #artist #artpodcast

As artists fighting to be recognized in today’s social media landscape, it is easy to lose track of why we started making art in the first place. When we notice that happen, we have to remind ourselves. Comment below: Why do you make art? Art Is Not Sacred Ep #8 with @davey_robinson

When Your Friends Love Your Love: A Series💕 Sarah & Mickey’s friend group is remarkable. Trust us, we’d know—Allyson & Sarah have been friends since their high school theater days. In the years since meeting Allyson, I’ve been able to experience the love between Sarah, Mickey, and the incredible individuals they consider their chosen family. These photos from @marissa.demott showcase their friends’ palpable adoration with candor and authenticity. This kind of raw emotion is born from unshakable bonds fostered only through navigating life’s ups and downs together, and being better for it. What a privilege to witness this kind of love✨ PS: Allyson was Sarah & Mickey’s lead planner, but here she is rocking it as a bridesmaid too! A versatile queen👩🏻‍🦰👑 PPS: legend has it Gianni is still crying. . 📸 @marissa.demott 🌼 @fernbotanica 💌 @dellaterragoods (+ alter ego @elle.kenwood as bridesmaid extraordinaire!!!!)

I feel like this is a common struggle- to simultaneously desire to completely different versions of my life. But that’s the tragic wonder of living, right? You only get to write one story. What’s important is always being presently aware that story you’re writing is one you’d like to read.

There is a fine line for an artist between wanting to become great at their craft and wanting to protect the reason they fell in love with their craft in the first place. What do you think is more important- mastering your craft despite the toll, or loving to do it regardless of your skill?
