We’ve only just been made aware that during our chants of ‘Up The Tories’ at Mickey 9s gigs, a small minority within the support has been shouting ‘Fuck the Tories’.
This is shameful behaviour, and such hatred will not be tolerated at Mickey 9s gigs.
We’d like to apologise to Russell and his team, and publicly endorse him as Scotland’s next Supreme Leader.
We’d also like to thank the Scottish Conservatives for their financial backing of Mickey 9s since the very beginning, and for funding our upcoming 6th album ‘Get Scotland Working’.

JD Twitch was a hero to us. He’s one of the biggest reasons we started doing what we do. More than any band, more than any record.
When we decided to start making our mad dance music with electric guitars, it’s because we spent our Sundays at @optimoespacio getting our heads blown off by the sheer madness and variety Twitch & Wilkes played. They showed us that anything could belong on the dancefloor if you just had the guts to play it.
Twitch didn’t just inspire people - he properly lifted them up. When I (Ants) was 19, totally obsessed with a tune he used to play (‘Jive Baby on a Saturday Night’ by The Jellies), I made a remix and sent it to him. He replied with genuine encouragement - then played it in the club the following Sunday. At that age, nothing had ever meant more to me. Listening back now, my remix was nothing special - but he heard something in it. And he chose to nurture it. That changed everything, and it pushed me to keep making music.
So nearly twenty years on, we wanted to honour Keith’s life by covering the track that gave Optimo its name. We’re not pretending that it touches the original, or the legendary Optimo remix. We’re not saying that Mickey 9s is anything like the creative genius of the records we heard at the Sub Club in the late 2000s. We did it because it was fun, and because Optimo gave us the confidence to have fun making the music we make.
