For a few days each year we open the doors of the studio as part of Dulwich artists' open house.
Visitors are invited into the space where our glass is made see the benches, the tools, and our coloured glassware waiting on the shelves.
Hand-blown tableware, lighting and sculptural pieces will be on sale throughout the workshop.
You will also be able to meet Fann Chau, who works in the studio as part of her QEST apprenticeship in glass.

MICHAEL RUH
@michaelruhstudio
The Michael Ruh Studio creates glassware for global luxury brands, architects, interior agencies and private clients. Established in London in 2004, it is run by glass blower Michael Ruh and his wife and fellow glassmaker Natascha Wahl.
Their work is used internationally across hotels, private residences, restaurants and high-end retail collections, defined by a timeless, tactile aesthetic, rich colour palettes and meticulous craftsmanship.
In the run-up to Artists’ Open House, the studio shelves are being carefully rearranged with tumblers, vessels and lights - bringing together pieces that hold colour and light in a particular way. Visitors are invited into the working studio itself, not a gallery setting, offering a chance to experience the work where it is made - among the tools, the bench and the furnace. A space to look closely, linger and discover pieces shaped with care and intention.

There will also be other artists exhibiting at Parade Mews, in different studios.

Today we could not help but notice how these things crafted with our hands disappear before our eyes. We are immersed in an ethereal and temporal architecture of colour, light, line and shadow. We are within a light-filled space.
It feels like some kind of near sacred place where the object is beyond thought and memory. Light and colour become that which is tangible, announced by today’s full springtime sun.

Not every piece arrives at its final destination straight away.
Some are heavier.
Some thinner.
Some sit just outside a collection.
SECOND FRIDAY brings those pieces into view, archive glassware, seconds and one-offs, as we clear space to expand the workshop and begin new work.
Held on the Second Friday of the month, February through April.

We stumbled across this gem from 1984 of Laura Branigan performing Self Control inside a Murano glass workshop. Gold shirt, glowing furnaces, and a rhythm that could still melt glass, the perfect note to end the year on.
Wishing you a foot tapping, peaceful Christmas from all of us here at Michael Ruh Studio.
