This Friday at Bayleaf Indian Fusion Restaurant-Fernie we have a special show to end the Winter live music series š¶šµ
Paul Silveria has spent 20 years developing his repertoire of folk songs, instrumentals, and vintage-styled originals - played on the banjo and presented with the stories behind the music. Paul has appeared at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, the Mission Folk Music Festival, the Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival, and many more.
Book a table at Bayleaf Fernie this Friday!!
I was honoured to be asked by Irma @artgallerykimberley to be one of the jurors for this show: Unusual Angles, that is on display at The Laudromat gallery in Kimberley. Itās a wonderfully diverse show, and there is a closing reception tonight (Friday) from 6pm-8pm at the gallery. I will be there so come and say hello and check out the great art that the gallery has on display.

After a summer and fall of non-stop artists residencies and festival travel, we are pretty excited to see @michaelhepher back in his studio. And the results are exceptional!!! Check out these two lovelies, on the wall today! Added bonus, the artist is in the gallery until 4 today (Sunday). Come say HI!
I dropped a couple new pieces off @elevationfernie this week. Im hanging out at the gallery today (Sunday) until 4pm so come on down and say hello, and have a look at the finished piece. These are just a couple snaps of my favourite moments as a sneak peek.

The continuing saga of this Red Eagle Lodge scene from my plein air trip to @islandlakelodge last April. Iāve had to tackle this one in smaller chunks than usual because my vision for the colour palette wasnāt really clear. I inched it forward bit by bit, but itās closer to the end now than the beginning, so you gotta hold on. Candle for mood.

I can see that itās been a while since Iāve posted. Is anyone else tired of playing the algorithm game with Meta? At any rate it doesnāt mean that I havenāt been working in the studio, and hereās some time lapse proof of a new piece Iām working on that came out of a very adventurous plein air ski sketching excursion to Island Lake Lodge with at Chrissy Nickerson in April. Now that the snow is falling, Iām feeling ready to tackle some of these winter images.
Iāve sequestered myself in the west Koots for a couple of weeks. I didnāt bring paint or palette, block or burin. My goal in this stretch is to start the process of editing and sorting my 90 ArtBeat columns into something resembling a book. ArtBeat was started as an initiative to raise awareness for the creative industries in a sporty town, and to encourage artists and foster discussion amongst the locals. It has been published monthly in the @ferniefix since June 2018, with December 2025 being the last edition in that form.
Over the years a number of people have encouraged me to put these thoughts together in one place, which is a daunting task to say the least. I do love the writing, and will continue to do so but am moving this part of my practice over to Substack so you can follow me there at michaelhepher.substack.com (link in bio) where you can see this book-type-thing come together, as well as a number of other thoughts about art, community, simplicity, and anything else that strikes my fancy.
For now, hereās some random snaps from this beautiful part of the world during my first few days digging into this pile of paper.
