Lost my Grandfather last week. The loss hit pretty hard. He taught me all my best skills. I was 11 years old working the pit at his BBQ restaurant in the summer, I didn't even realize the vital education I found back there in that heat and smoke. But later it life I was surprised to find that that knowledge was somehow a marketable asset. Knowing how a brisket jiggles when it perfect....is as cool as Miles Davis, but it takes years of guessing wrong and learning through your senses. Which turns out to be a pretty great metaphor to apply to all things in life. Take your time, learn with failure, find confidence in your instinct. He also was a world class bullshitter. And taught me the most important lesson of my life,: ....The story is more important than the truth, life's a bit, make it worth it. Make as many friends as you can, cut your own trail, and soak up as much of the world as humanly possible. You only get one ticket. Love ya Grandpa
