Step inside the extraordinary ✨
For the exhibition, “The Anatomy of Wonder”, Michael Garlington constructed a monumental temple in his Petaluma studio, then, along with his team, transported and installed it over three days in the gallery. Known for his iconic Burning Man temples, Michael brings that same sense of ritual, devotion, and spectacle into this immersive work.
This piece is available for acquisition. Michael will personally deliver, install, and apply a weatherproof coating, making it suitable for both private and public settings.
On view now through the end of the month, come experience it in person!
“The Anatomy of Wonder: Photosculptures by Michael Garlington” was presented in partnership with the Center for Photographic Art and PhotoCarmel, and was featured during the Ripple Effect Arts Festival (April 16–26), which celebrated the interconnected energy of artists and communities throughout Santa Cruz County and the Central Coast.

“The Wheelchair of Babel” is part of our current exhibition, “The Anatomy of Wonder: Michael Garlington Photo Sculptures”, which introduces visitors to the imaginative world of artist and photographer Michael Garlington.
Michael combines photography and sculpture to create detailed, layered environments. He often starts with black-and-white portraits and builds them into immersive installations filled with texture, symbolism, and unexpected connections.
His work has been shown internationally, including in No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man at the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, and in large-scale commissions like The Journey to the Cloud for Google.
Guided by the idea that “Life is art. Art is my daily life,” Michael’s work brings together people, animals, plants, and symbolic forms to reflect a shared, expressive world. The Anatomy of Wonder invites visitors to step inside these environments and experience art that sits somewhere between photography, sculpture, and storytelling.
