Happy Friday! What an awesome 2 hour lesson with Justin Scott yesterday at Pocket Percussion! There’s not many things I like more than spending time learning how I can improve as a musician from other great drummers! We spent some time going through his new book “The Core Rudiment System” which contains over 6 hours of video footage. I’m so excited to start digging in and working on the uncomfortable and implementing the material into my own teaching! I hope for anyone reading this that you’ll get in a room with someone who can give you the tools and inspiration to improve what it is you share with the world! What a great job by 11 year old Margot! We work on many techniques and useful musical phrases which is great but also make sure to relate material to a song. This was her first take on her second video since studying at The Drum Fort! These videos are done with the drums removed and no click. Student’s will get a lots of great feedback and accountability when you hit the red button! I also use this process in my own practice so I can fine tune my feel and fix things that I might be playing different then I think! If you’ve been to one of Todd’s masterclasses I’ve hosted you know you’ll walk away inspired and having had another amazing experience with one of our favorite drummers/people!
About 300 great drum friends have attended Todd’s Primary Masterclass, which focuses on technique, ergonomics, form, along with mental and physical relaxation techniques for maximum performance. This class is recommended but not necessary to attend the V2 classes.
The V2 Masterclass focuses on new ways of thinking about orchestrating ideas around the drum set. This class will teach you ways of exploring different stickings and applications to create a flow of new ideas— even with common rudiments you already know. Join Todd in this rhythmic pathway of discovery which will change your musical outlook.

This weekend was full of challenging subdivision work with singles and doubles, compound stickings and mixed rhythms on the hands and between the hands and feet. All materials are related to being creative on any instrument.These concepts will definitely strengthen your foundation and your brain and how it processes useful musical phrases!
