Yuko, you are truly a miracle. What began as the scariest time imaginable has turned into something that I’m truly grateful for, as we are getting through it together. For anyone who hasn’t heard this story yet, let me first start by saying that Yuko and I are both all right. However, in June of this year, Yuko suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and required immediate hospital care and surgery. This included getting a drain implanted to remove the excess blood in the skull as well as a life-saving open brain surgery. We spent 16 days in the ICU together and Yuko is currently recovering. Towards the end of our stay, we learned that 1/3 of people with this condition do not make it to the hospital and half don’t survive beyond the first 24 hours. Some can also suffer a stroke and lose motor or speaking skills. We are incredibly fortunate that this did not happen. While the recovery will still be a journey, I am truly grateful to see Yuko being herself throughout this whole ordeal. Her strength and determination inspire me every day. Seeing her resilience and the compassion she has maintained throughout this process has been truly beautiful. Yuko, I love you. I also want to thank everyone who supported us during this challenging time. I can’t even begin to find the words to describe how kind and wonderful everyone has been. Whether you visited us, called, brought food, made us laugh, donated, or sent well wishes, your support truly meant the world to us. Thank you to the entire team at North Shore University Hospital. I can’t even begin to describe the care and attention that we received and how every single staff member went above and beyond. It truly was a blessing to be in their care. We are still navigating the safest path forward in life, but remain hopeful that things will come together. Some friends have also set up a GoFundMe campaign to help Yuko in the recovery process and we want to say thank you again to everyone for the amazing generosity.
