I’m very excited to be part of this upcoming exhibition at Hollis Taggart Downtown! The exhibition’s title is Material Memory it opens on May 15th 6-8. Join us! From today’s announcement: Hollis Taggart Downtown is pleased to present Material Memory, a group exhibition featuring new and recent paintings and sculptures by seven contemporary artists, Megan Baker, Edward Holland, Ashanté Kindle, Hans Neleman, Cordy Ryman, Kelly Wang, and Michael Wolf. Material Memory proposes that memory is not something we recall, but something that is physically constructed and embodied in surfaces, bodies, systems, and structures. Across painting, relief, sculpture and assemblage, the artists in the exhibition treat memory as an active process that is built through accumulation, altered through time, and sustained through material form. The works do not illustrate the past, they retain and remake it. Curated by Eleanor de Ropp Flatow, the exhibition celebrates the first anniversary of the Hollis Taggart Downtown, and underscores the gallery’s continued commitment to emerging and mid-career artists. It will be on view from May 15 through June 20, with an opening reception on Friday, May 15, from 6-8pm. .•... I rarely go to openings but last night was an opportunity for me to see an artist who I am very fond of, Michael Wolf. @michael_wolfs_work has several pieces in a group show at Hollis Taggart Downtown including a new sculpture that is a little different than the work that I have been admiring and engaged with in the last few years. Check out the last photo to see Michael, his new piece and a lovely woman who echoed the aesthetic in her sense of style. It was great to see you Michael. I will go back to visit the gallery @hollistaggartdowntown before the show closes and spend some time with the work of the other artists in the show. @paulefstathiou lovely to see you and I’ll see you again soon. #artliveshere #artlivesherenyc #hollistaggartdowntown #contemporaryart

In honor of the Newark Museum’s 100th Anniversary I wanted to share some of my favorite moments and artworks in the museum. 1. One of my greatest honors was leading a talk and tour of my favorite works in the collection, following a collaboration with Gallery Aferro in Newark, where I filled four storefront windows on Market Street as part of the gallery’s Activate Market Street program. I’m especially grateful to Evonne Davis and Emma Wilcox for the opportunity. Here I am in front of one of my favorites! A sculpture by Barbara Chase-Riboud. @gallery_aferro @evonnemdavis #emmawilcox @newarkmuseumart 2. Wooden pull toys I carved for a museum exhibition focused on life in ancient Egypt. These are reproductions of children’s toys from the period. Note, the hippo “pull toy” has no wheels—since the wheel had not yet been developed. It was especially popular with the kids, I had to replace the string several times. The mouth on the lion moves up and down. 3.The Tibetan Buddhist temple was under construction by artists from Tibet while I was working in the education department. During that time, Dalai Lama came to consecrate the temple, and I had the opportunity to hear him speak in the museum’s garden. 4. Curator Elena Muñoz-Rodríguez @here_lies_capncrunch giving me a tour of the Bony Ramirez exhibition and spoke with me about recent additions to the American Art collection that more fully reflect the breadth and evolving concerns of contemporary art. Diana Al-Hadid, Linn Meyers, and Kendall Buster at Georgetown University’s Art Gallery. Small compact exhibits filled with delicate yet powerful works. Linn Meyers work has to be seen in person to be appreciated! The minute and delicate lines are incredible. I had never seen any of Diana Al- Hadid’s 2D work in person, which I really enjoyed. I had the gallery to myself even the guard was AWOL most of the time I was viewing the show. I was not familiar with Kendal Buster’s work. I really admired her ability to create variations on a theme. I especially liked her foamcore small sculptures placed on shelves interacting with each other. @dianaalhadid @linnmeyers @kendallkendallbusterbuster @guartgalleries @georgetownuniversity
