On Feb. 20, students swarmed the Westlake High School quad, weaving between tables draped in red cloth and stacked with Chinese snacks as traditional music played and dancers prepared to perform. The Conejo Valley campus was hosting what organizers believe to be its first ever Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.
Oak Park High School has been celebrating the event for several years. Their Lunar New Year festivity took place Feb. 23 on the campus big lawn and featured student-led performances, including lion dances, plus cultural displays, hands-on activities and traditional foods.
