Gyrograph #00b882 on aluminium dibond Last few days to see this and other pieces from the series: @thelastsupper_art_gallery until 6th May 38 Webb’s Road London SW11 6SF Gyrographs - Mapping Time, Light and Motion A photographic exploration of physical forces through long-exposure light capture. Using a custom motorised apparatus, Gyrographs visualise rotational motion as trajectories shaped by force, velocity and time. Recorded in a single in-camera exposure, the images resemble cosmic structures while functioning as physical mappings of motion and energy. The title of each work is derived from the hexadecimal value of the central pixel within the image. Whilst referencing the digital architecture of the photograph it also serves to highlight the tension between randomness and order. Theoretically any number of images may share the same title, but the physical conditions that generate each exposure ensure that every Gyrograph remains entirely unique. Printed directly onto aluminium dibond, the metallic substrate amplifies the luminous structures within the image, transforming captured light into delicate filigree patterns that appear almost electrically charged. Situated between scientific analysis and artistic exploration, Gyrographs invite viewers to contemplate the hidden forces that shape both the microscopic and cosmic worlds. Limited edition prints available in three sizes. 30 x 30 cm 50 x 50 cm 80 x 80 cm #gyrograph #time #light #motion

I’ll be showing this piece and several others from my Gyrograph project @thelastsupper_art_gallery opening next Tuesday 14th April 38 Webb’s Road SW11 6SF A few notes below to explain the project and concept: Mapping Time, Light and Motion The Gyrograph is a photographic process that visualises rotational motion through long-exposure light capture. Using a custom apparatus built from the hub of a bicycle wheel, light sources trace trajectories determined by centrifugal force and changing velocity. Recorded as a single in-camera exposure, the resulting images resemble cosmic structures while functioning as physical mappings of motion, energy and time. Printed directly onto aluminium dibond, the metallic substrate amplifies the luminous structures within the image, transforming captured light into delicate filigree patterns that appear tangible and electrically charged. Situated between scientific analysis and artistic exploration, Gyrographs invite viewers to contemplate the hidden forces that shape both the microscopic and cosmic worlds. #gyrograph #070508 #time #light #motion #energy #science #art #concept

Funny what you find when an old friend asks if you have a copy of a photograph they took (when I had hair) ! @michael.swallow took this picture when we were doing the BA Photographic Studies course at Napier Polytechic (now University) in Edinburgh in 1987, almost 40 years ago. #timeflies

Something from the archive… I took these at the Winter Olympics in Turin, 20 years ago today. A nice bit of poetry in motion. #torino2006 #winterolympics #biathlon

Setting up to take some formal studio shots of a table I’ve made (checkout @studio_wabi_sabi.uk ) I did a quick shot on my phone to test a black background, and this rather beautiful and completely accidental composition occurred.

I love the quiet narrative of these prints; the muted tones, the leaden sky, the tracks and footprints, the weight of the snow. You need to pause for a moment to study the interplay and relationships of the characters. 1. Playing in the Snow (I may be some time) 2. Snowball Ambush
