Sometimes it really just works out like that. Hahaha Thank you to @driverdoesntdrive for asking me to sub in for their team’s @ipickle.us 4x4 league finals. The time on and off the court with all of you was an extremely enjoyable way to spend a Monday night!

Some line call drama happened at the end of the 5.0 Women’s Bronze Medal match this weekend at Lakeland PPA. It’s perfectly fine to call your lines with confidence if you’re certain the ball is out. It’s also okay to push back on a call you don’t agree with. In this particular match, there was a build up of a few very tight calls, culminating in this unfortunate ending to a 3 game nail-biter. Perhaps I shouldn’t have hit a shot that was bound to paint a line. Perhaps this specific opponent should have continued to play the point out given how tight the call is and that its match point. What are your thoughts on playing a ball this close to the line at such a pivotal moment of a match?

After nearly two years of competing, this one feels extra special… my first 5.0 women’s PPA bracket win! I first picked up a tennis racket in March 2020, and wow, what a journey it has been since. I don’t think younger me could imagine what she would accomplish in the next five years. My husband, Wesley, and I hit baseline-to-baseline nearly every day, no matter where we lived — chasing courts in LA, grinding through Denver winters, and eventually landing in Eden Prairie, MN, where I fell in love with competing. I joined a USTA league at the start of 2023, self-rated at 3.5, and ended the year at 4.5. But as all good things go, I strained my left wrist after a rough backhand return. So, starting 2024, after both of us receiving Vatic Prism Flashes from my in-laws, Wesley and I started to play pickleball almost as often as we had played tennis. At first it was mostly social while I healed and reset, but in March 2024 I played my first tournament and even managed to win it. Fast forward to September 2024, and I had officially decided to drop tennis altogether and pursue pickleball competitively. Since then, pickleball has given me so much more than I expected — a whole new community, people I now call good friends, and competitive moments I never imagined I’d get to experience. I’m genuinely grateful for all of it. This last weekend was a special win for me for a handful of reasons. It felt like a full-circle moment… and a reminder that leaving tennis wasn’t such a bad idea after all — even though I’ll always love the game. Thank you for playing with me this last week: @alisonnbrown , Alexis, and @thepickleballstudio . And a huge thank you to my husband for all the wonderful moments on court, and for supporting me through the long tournament days. Thank you to everyone who cheered me on — it truly means the world. Here’s to whatever 2026 has in store. 💛
