Some second half of February favorites:
Lots of filming and valuable time making things and practicing baseball with Jay, bringing back @ladyloteria with Evey, quality time at the office/studio, reading Bell Hooks again, and a couple of solid nights out with my partner in everything ♥️
This week was a strong reminder of how far we’ve come. I started working on my dad’s nursery before I hit double digits. For years we didn’t have a TV. We showered at other people’s houses, and not everyone was kind to us. I learned early to tie my worth to how hard I worked, or how small I could make myself.
I’m grateful to have learned to give myself more self-compassion, for the life we’re building, for the community we get to gather in our studio, and for the privilege of giving my kids time to just be kids.
This week we went to a conference for work in Vegas, celebrated a friend, saw our son play little league for the first time, hosted an amazing event in the studio with some badass women, and Evey possibly hit her last piñata. ♥️
2016. Loved that long angled bob. Was sponsorship director at @newportbeachfilmfest while carving out what became my role as digital media director + juggling digital marketing and creative direction for a consulting company, an online magazine, and an ecommerce brand. Lalo was in his first career and we had just moved in together the year before, so it’s when he taught Evelyn to ride a bike and skateboard. We lived in Old Towne Orange (I still miss it so much). We traveled to Napa to visit my parents for the first time. We went to New York, San Francisco and Laughlin with our families. We went to beerfests and secret bars with friends. We enjoyed the outdoors a lot. Those life of pablo shirts and angel wings were everywhere.
This Summer, Maven began a mastermind group, a weekly meeting where brand starters can meet to discuss our work.
It’s more than just a place to talk strategy, it’s where we remind ourselves we’re not crazy for wanting our brand to truly mean something to ourselves and to the people we serve. It’s a reminder that creating a business or project is an act of self-improvement, consistency, and maybe a little bit of hectic energy. I’m grateful to be surrounded by dreamers who want more, and who are brave enough to be seeking it out.
