Repost from my “private account” brother:
Back in 1987, @mgreenb5 starred in a high school production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. When the advisor quit, Sheryl stepped in to direct. We all chipped in on stage and behind the scenes. 39 years later Meredith directed a new production at Cal State LA. Five original cast members reunited in the audience! The entire production was phenomenal.
As the stage manager, calling the show at the Bowl hundreds of feet away from the stage, you have to have someone you trust implicitly running the deck. I am very lucky to have @morgan_zupanski by my side to support, manage and take care of business. You want the person who will step out on stage during the performance when Cynthia Erivo doesn't have a mic and reassure her until it gets there. This woman gets the job done, with kindness, empathy and care. Thank you Morgan for all that you have done, and continue to do to make my life (at the Bowl and at Cal State) easier and better.
When Ken George came to Cal State LA in 2013 to design Hair, we wanted him to stay, and I think he liked us too. So much that he came back for Rent, American Buffalo and Unseen Hand. He was the kindest, most generous collaborator, a gifted teacher and such a creative artist. Last week, I was having a conversation about how we might entice him back again for another show. And now he is gone. I will miss that smile and laugh. I will miss him pulling every single prop out of storage to put on the set (see American Buffalo photo for an inventory of everything we have!). He is gone way too soon. Rest in peace friend.
Mothers Day. I thank my mom, Sheryl Cohen and Barbara Donner for being the best moms I know. This year is special because I am watching new moms navigate. I send them all my love, luck, prayers and patience!
