Binns Park was filled with the kind of energy that signals summer has officially arrived in Lancaster. The Sound of Summer celebration marked the official launch of both Music Friday and this year’s Keys for the City program through @mfelancaster , kicking off another season where downtown Lancaster transforms into a citywide stage. Throughout the evening, performances from the Community Chorus, MFE Sound Factory Strings, MFE Sound Factory Band, and Ukulele Uprising echoed through Binns Park while live music spread block by block across the city. On corners, sidewalks, restaurants, and storefronts, musicians filled Lancaster with sound in a way that made the city feel lighter, more connected, and fully awake again after a long winter. Music Fridays have become an important part of Lancaster’s identity over the years. It’s about access and creating moments where music becomes part of everyday life instead of something locked behind ticket prices or concert halls. For a few hours, downtown became less about rushing through and more about experiencing the city together. Since its inception, Music Fridays has quietly become one of those traditions that reminds people why they love Lancaster. Every third Friday from May through September, musicians of all backgrounds spread throughout the city offering free performances that invite participation. Some performers even hand instruments to passersby and encourage them to join in. Nothing changes the feeling of a city quite like live music does. Music gives public spaces warmth. It creates memory. It turns ordinary sidewalks into gathering places. By the end of the night, music carried through downtown Lancaster and into another summer season that officially feels underway. Summer in Lancaster has officially begun. #lancasterpa #music #supportlocal #summer

WE DID THAT! 👀 The @mfelancaster Community Piano Painted by the kids at @bgclanc Designed by @terian_mack Dropping off some content to show the process of how this piano went from CONCEPT to REALITY! ⭐️ @terian_mack facilitated a @largerthanlife.culture ART Session at @bgclanc where the kids used crayons to design their own community pianos on paper first. ⭐️Then as a team, we covered the piano in white to give us a fresh canvas! ⭐️ We combined the ideas from each student into one design - now we get to work! ⭐️As a team, we all added colors and textures to the pianos design! This free flow style of collaboration created a beautifully abstract splash of color and vibrancy to the piano! FEEL FREE TO GO PLAY ON OUR COMMUNITY PIANO - downtown at @holidayinnlancasterpa on Chestnut Street! Don’t forget to take a pic or 2!! 😁

Elizabeth R. Martin School’s 4th grade Art Club has added its own mark to one of Lancaster’s most beloved public art traditions. This spring, students finished designing and painting a piano for Music For Everyone’s 2026 Keys for the City, bringing their creativity from the classroom into the heart of Lancaster. The finished piano will be displayed outside of @lancasterartshotel , where community members will be able to see it, play it, and experience the work of Martin students throughout the season. Keys for the City returns this year as @mfelancaster celebrates 17 years of placing street pianos throughout Lancaster. The program has helped define Lancaster as the Street Piano Capital of the World, turning sidewalks, parks, and public spaces into places where art and music are accessible to everyone. The piano will be unveiled as part of Music For Everyone’s Keys for the City kickoff on Friday, May 15, 2026. Community members are invited to Binn’s Park from 5 to 8 p.m. for the Sound of Summer celebration, which officially launches both Keys for the City and the first Music Friday concert of the season. Way to go @sdol_martin Mustangs! 🐎 #sdolpa #sdolproud #lancasterpa #education #music

Watch us deliver three pianos across two towns in just under one minute! These custom-painted pianos are a part of our Keys On The Streets program at Susquehanna River Creative Conspiracy, where we aim to bring music and the arts to you - literally! You can tickle the ivories of these interactive art pieces at the following locations: 🕵️ Columbia River Trails Crossing Center 🕵️ @coffeeandcream_columbia 🕵️ @mcclearyspublichouse 🕵️ @rivertrailbrewing While this video is short, the effort certainly wasn’t. Our friends at working on the Lancaster County Strategic Arts Initiative need your help! This group is working on producing a long range strategic plan for the arts in Lancaster County. Their first step is to conduct an economic and community impact study of the arts in Lancaster County and they need your voice. Please click the link below to fill out a brief survey about your thoughts on the arts, how you engage with them. This information is critical as the results of the study will serve as the basis from which the group will develop the long term plan. So if you care about the future of the arts in our community, please share your thoughts.
