A few fun facts I love bragging about my dad: He met my mom when they were both assigned to cover a Talking Heads show for their college newspaper (Harpur College at SUNY Binghamton, where I get my middle name from). He got married in a warehouse in Chelsea, bought an apartment on Prince Street with my mom before it was cool, was a snowboard instructor for 20 years, and rode his 1968 Vespa Rally and Triumph Bonneville just for the thrill. His love for life made everything fun, and in doing so he raised a family that is incredibly close and genuinely loves to spend time together. How lucky am I to exist in his orbit, as his daughter.
He made the most of every moment and never let five years of disease define him. He passed away on November 15. He was 68. A caption, carousel, or obit could never fully capture his incredible existence. In his honor, Iād like to share an op-ed he wrote that expresses his perspective on living with cancer, and his request not to frame his journey in terms of a battle or fight, but to press on regardless. He truly was the coolest dad to ever live.
