Foreign Minister Senator the Honourable @kaminajsmith on Thursday, May 14, bid farewell to Ms. Olga Isaza, UNICEF's Resident Representative, as she concludes her tour of duty in Jamaica.
Minister Johnson Smith thanked Ms. Isaza for her leadership and hands-on engagement throughout her tenure, noting UNICEF’s partnership with Jamaica in education, disability inclusion, psychosocial support, violence prevention and child welfare, in collaboration with several public bodies including the Ministry of Education, the Office of the Children’s Advocate and the Planning Institute of Jamaica.
The Minister also acknowledged UNICEF’s early support following Hurricane Melissa, with particular reference to the School-in-a-Box initiative, which provided essential classroom supplies to help teachers resume lessons and keep children learning after the hurricane disrupted regular schooling.
Looking ahead, Minister Johnson Smith said Jamaica looks forward to continued collaboration with UNICEF, including through its expanding regional presence and ongoing work to support children and families.
The Ministry joins Minister Johnson Smith in extending best wishes to Ms. Isaza as she assumes her new role as UNICEF's Deputy Regional Director in Panama.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable @kaminajsmith , highlighted Jamaica’s longstanding leadership within the International Maritime Organization (IMO) system during a special commemorative ceremony on Tuesday (May 12) marking the country’s 50th anniversary of membership in the organisation.
The Minister also reaffirmed Jamaica’s commitment to maritime cooperation, sustainability, international law, and multilateralism.
She noted that, for Jamaica as a Small Island Developing State, maritime affairs are existential and underscored the critical role of shipping in trade, disaster response, economic resilience, and national development.
The Minister was joined by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Transport and Telecommunications, Mrs. Kedesha Campbell Rochester, who delivered remarks on behalf of Minister, the Honourable Daryl Vaz as well as Director General at the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, Mr. Bertrand Smith.
