🫀I'm excited to announce that I've been selected for a one year coaching program at
@soundimageculture with my project CROSSROADS:
CROSSROADS is an audiovisual research project intertwining the death of
@ellasuzannak 's father with the mystical history of the crossroads.
On the night of December 31st, 2021, at the intersection of the old and the new year, Ella and I were traversing a crossroads near our home when we were confronted with the news of her father's death.
Afterwards, I had the privilege to witness Ella's intimate mourning process, and how it unfolded beautifully through dreams, dances, sound recordings, letters, and the building of an altar.
From my side, I became mesmerised by the fascinating cultural histories of the crossroads. Since time immemorial, crossroads have been regarded as vibrant places where one could interact with ghosts and spirits, bury the dead, perform dancing rituals, or invoke the gods of transit, transition, and transformation.
In the coming year, Ella and I, with the help of many others, will bring together these and many other stories, interweaving personal memories with collective history. We will attempt to compose the crossroads as an audiovisual meeting ground for magical encounters between father and daughter, dream and reality, image and sound, life and death. A cinematic space for passage, mourning, birth, and transformation.
May the sparks of many crossings light up the screening room, for a film to be born... X
