Female Affairs: India–Spain Music Cooperation Programme 2025 🎶✨ In collaboration with Meta Arts, the Embassy of Spain in India 🇪🇸🇮🇳 presented Female Affairs Extnd., bringing together women composers and performers from Spain and India through a concert series across Goa, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Kolkata 🎻🎼, along with a specialised workshop for young musicians in Kolkata 🎶📚. The Birsa–Esteban Duo’s workshop brought together musicians, listeners, and first-timers to explore improvisation as a shared practice — rooted in raga, jazz history, and lived experience. From structured ideas to spontaneous jams, the evening moved fluidly between learning and play, reminding us that music thrives in collaboration, not hierarchy. These workshops aren’t just about technique — they’re about building communities that listen, respond, and create together. ✨

Where learning found its rhythm and creativity found its voice. 🎷✨ The Jazz Showcase celebrated the finale of a three-day immersive Jazz Workshop at The Newtown School, Kolkata, where students explored rhythm, improvisation, and collaboration under the guidance of acclaimed jazz mentors Ida Brinch (trumpet, Denmark) @ida._.brinch , Maria Dybbroe (saxophone, Denmark/Norway) @mariadybbroe , and Kahini Panjabi (drums, Kolkata). “Neige du Paradis” — a piece I wrote for Milou, my little dog who passed in the most peaceful way. He was surrounded by all of us, being sung to and held, and he took his last breaths with nothing but love around him. This tune is a lullaby for him — my attempt to capture his spirit, his gentleness, and the joy he brought into our lives. I like to imagine him somewhere in paradise, running around, happy, watching over us… and waiting to greet us when it’s our time to arrive. We hosted a meet up between Rafaële Giovanala, Artistic Director @cocoondance and various performance/dance makers from Bangalore at OffStage. Rafale facilitated a short session sharing her process and things that she finds exciting and values in her choreographic research. The meet was with an intention to plant seeds for a possible future collaboration. My first time in Hyderabad… and wow. Still taking it all in. @estebanmcastro_ and I had the chance to play for the most beautiful crowd at the oasis that is @imli.sarai — a space filled with art, warmth, and soul. Huge love to the Coda Foundation, @alliancefrancaise_hyderabad and @metaartsind for bringing this experience to life and making us feel so welcomed. Feeling grateful beyond words. Two nights, two rare chances to learn with acclaimed global musicians at Jazz at Imli: 🌀 8 December – Workshop with the Birsa–Esteban Duo Step into their world as Birsa blends raga-driven saxophone phrasing with Esteban’s New York–honed piano language. 🌘 11 December – Workshop with Light Star Guiding From Warsaw to Banjara Hills, dive into trance-like grooves, drones and chant-inspired textures. The jazz workshops are masterclasses where both musicians and non- musicians can join established jazz musicians to play together and improvise with them, learn about their personal stories and jazz history. The masterclasses will be followed by an open jam session with local musicians- not to miss! ‘the skill sets required in both jazz and Indian music serve as profound metaphors for life itself — emphasizing adaptability, deep listening, democracy, curiosity, self-belief, discipline, and work ethic. JazzCamp for Girls is now in full swing in Kolkata, where Danish and Indian talents are joining forces to give young girls the confidence to explore music and take the stage. 🎷✨ At New Town School Kolkata, tutors Kahini Panjabi, Ida Brinch Nielsen and Maria Dybbroe teaches rhythmics, improvisation, and creative interplay. Throughout the camp, participants from New Town School and Future Hope School get the chance to try out instruments, develop their own expression, and strengthen the community built around music. JazzCamp for Girls is an international format developed by JazzDanmark to open doors for more young girls in music and create a safe space for learning, play, and confidence.
