Remembering Boston bike messenger , frame builder, race organizer and bike advocate Jacob Smoller (Jacobs) who passed away on May 14, 2015. His motto was TRY HARDER and many messengers have it tattooed on them as an homage to Jacobs. The 2017 North American Cycle Courier Championships in Milwaukee used yellow caution tape with Jacob’s motto on it in tribute to him. https://youtu.be/82mJcForwIs?si=2hUt1qDM1mVhCTOP /memorial/jsmoller.html

Remembering Toronto bike messenger Robert Thompson who was killed on the job by a streetcar, on May 11, 1938 “In all my medical experience I have never seen such courage exhibited by a young man,” Dr. Lawson told the jury. With his legs almost severed at the thighs, he pulled three telegrams from his pocket and and asked someone to see that they were safely delivered.” “The wealth of a nation is not in her money but in her people. As long as Canada produces boys with courage and devotion to duty like the late Mr. Thompson we need have no fear for our country’s future.”
