We’re excited to be taking part in Design Victoria 2026!
From April 30-May 3, this four-day festival celebrates Victoria’s creative community with exhibitions, talks, workshops, tours, film screenings, and more. The full program is now up, and tickets for all events (most of them free including our event!) opens tomorrow April 8 at noon. On May 3rd, we will take you around the St. Michaels University School campus to explore and give insights into how the buildings fit into the school's vision.

For 40 years, Merrick Architecture has been working alongside clients, consultants, and builders to shape projects that matter and serve the community. As we reflect on four decades of practice, we’re excited to continue evolving, learning, and contributing to the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Most importantly, this milestone belongs to the people behind the work. We are deeply grateful to our past and present staff whose dedication, creativity, and care have helped shape every project and every chapter of the firm. Thank you to our clients, consultants, and builders for being part of the journey.
Here’s to the next chapter! 🎉

The Museum of Vancouver opened its doors to the Polish-Canadian Architectural Exhibition, an event celebrating the enduring contributions of Polish-Canadian architects to the architectural landscape of Canada and beyond. This exhibition brought together professionals, enthusiasts, and visionaries to honor the artistry, innovation, and heritage that have shaped the built environment over decades. This year’s exhibition paid a special tribute to Mr. Bogusław (Bogue) Babicki, commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Greg Borowski, one of our Principals, helped play a role in organizing this inspiring event. Greg worked alongside a talented team of colleagues to bring this exhibition to life, showcasing a rich tapestry of work that bridges tradition and modernity.
We extend our congratulations to all involved in the success of this event and invite you to join us in acknowledging the contributions of Polish-Canadian architects.

We would like to welcome a student from Dalhousie University, Pelin! Since it is her first time being on the Westcoast, we asked what her thoughts are of Vancouver architecture, maybe a little bit of the lifestyle, too! Let us know if you had similar thoughts of the Westcoast if you're from different city! ;)
"I've notice that biophilic architecture is everywhere around here, as well as lots of green roofs and facades. I've also been amazed at how the west coast modern architecture fits well with the natural surroundings. I'm slowly becoming an Arthur Erickson fan as well! On a different note, the sushi is soo much better here! The trees are taller and the weather is warmer (than the Eastcoast at this time of year!), but the cars seem to zoom by without stopping for pedestrians!"

Other sustainable features include the high albedo color for the metal roof, large shading overhangs, an exterior finish material that is long lasting and requires no maintenance (composite wood-like product), high clerestory windows to maximize daylight use, extensive use of exposed glulam wood for structural support, maintaining the entire Gary Oak meadow at the front of the school (made possible by pursuing the expansion program rather than rebuilding), permeable paver products, a sensitive approach to maintaining Tree-Canopy coverage by replanting only where necessary.
