The best part about running for City Council is meeting the very people you hope to represent one day. Today, I had the pleasure of joining my fellow At-Large candidates — Fernando Garcia and Ira Guilford— on the Ali Slate at the Condict Street Block Party. 🙌🏽 A huge shoutout to the Westside Community Alliance Association (WSCA) and the amazing neighbors of Condict, Gautier, Delaware, and Duncan Avenues for putting together such a beautiful community event. From cultural food tables 🍛, to kids’ activities 🎨, to the genuine conversations and laughter — today showed what unity in diversity really looks like in Ward B. Among the many great people I met — parents of my students, community leaders, neighbors, and fellow candidates — I want to give a special shoutout to Daniel Santiago, a true hero in our community. 👏🏽 Daniel, an English teacher at Lincoln High School and community organizer of Filipino heritage 🇵🇭, recently traveled to the West Bank to advocate for justice and dignity for both Muslim and Christian Palestinians 🇵🇸. Despite not being Arab or Muslim himself, Daniel demonstrated a level of courage that inspires us all. I even told him if the ballots haven’t already closed, I would’ve asked him to take my spot in running for councilmen. When it comes to his sacrifices— he was shot in the leg while standing up for humanity. Sadly, another brave soul, Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist, was tragically killed by a headshot. Their sacrifices remind us of others like Chris Smalls, who also took a stand for humanity and faced violence from those who lack compassion and empathy. Here in Jersey City, the second most ethnically diverse city in America 🌎, we’re blessed to live among so many different cultures, faiths, and traditions. We don’t just coexist — we learn, share, and grow together. It’s through this unity that we build stronger communities and nurture mutual respect for all. So today, I celebrate our neighborhoods, our people, and those who stand up for what’s right — no matter where they come from or who they are. Because at the end of the day, we’re all human, and our diversity is our greatest strength. 🤝🏽 #freepalestine #WardB

Amado was shot in the leg by an IoF soldier while conducting protective presence for Palestinians trying to return to their homes in the West Bank. Two weeks later, another victim from his contingency was shot in the head. The IoF denies purposefully targeting nationals. Amado and countless other victims of targeted IoF cruelty know better. We should, too. Isra*l acts with total impunity, from the gen*cide being committed on Palestinians to attacks on international citizens in the West Bank, Gaza, and international waters. Remember Gaza. Remember Palestine. Honor those international citizens who make great sacrifices for Palestine. But remember always those millions for whom constant and agonizing sacrifice is not optional, but mandatory.
