Protests against the far-right are understandably taking place around the UK.
If you are travelling to one of these, given that the far-right are often out in large numbers at these times, here are a few simple precautions you can take.
Try to travel in pairs or groups if you can, going to and from protests
Make sure people know where you are going and when you expect to be back
Consider pinging your location to others.
If you find yourself in a difficult position, call 999 or 101 if it is not an emergency.
Tommy Robinson is organising another far-right march in London this Saturday, 16 May.
Last year, at Robinson’s “Unite the Kingdom” rally right-wing speakers came from across the world to give speeches that were condemned for racism, Islamophobia and extremist rhetoric.
Robinson himself repeated the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, claiming Muslims and migrants were replacing Europeans.
Others echoed such views and called for violence and the removal of Islam from Europe.
While headlines focused on Reform UK’s rise, another major political story unfolded across Britain: Muslim communities organising, mobilising and winning representation at the ballot box.
Hundreds of Muslim councillors were elected as independents and progressive candidates, as voters move away from parties that have taken their support for granted. Communities organised around issues that matter most including housing, inequality, welfare, the cost of living and Gaza.
This is what democratic participation looks like: communities refusing silence, demanding representation and reshaping Britain’s political landscape through collective organisation, coalition-building and civic engagement. Linsay Taylor CEO of MEND, writes in @5pillarsnews

A Political Earthquake - 2026 UK Elections - Part 2
The Smear That Failed Muslim voters were targeted. It didn't work. Throughout the campaign, Muslim voters and the Greens were subjected to coordinated accusations of "sectarianism." Four national newspapers published cartoons mocking Zack Polanski that were widely condemned as antisemitic. Baseless "family voting" allegations continued to be made against Muslim-majority areas, despite the lack of any evidence.
2026 UK Elections - Part 1
A Political Earthquake - Reform won 1,400+ council seats. Labour lost 1,496 councillors. But the story for British Muslims is far more complex — and more hopeful — than the headlines suggest.
We held the first-ever Imams event in Leicester, with invitations sent to all 73 masjid and musalla imams across the city. For the first time, imams from different manhajs came together to meet, discuss, and engage with one another in a positive and respectful environment. We also shared feedback on the work we’ve done so far and reflected on our journey and progress together.
A huge step forward for unity, communication, and collaboration within our community. May this be the beginning of even greater khayr, Insha’Allah.
