“Realmente quería que la capacitación fuera atractiva; esta era mi máxima prioridad. Al igual que todos, creo que se aprende más haciendo que solo observando y escuchando. Esta es la idea principal detrás del curso de tres días diseñado para Elisava: que los estudiantes construyan un objeto funcional, utilizando toda la maquinaria del taller en el proceso y experimentando de primera mano. Cuanto antes empieces a usar las herramientas y mantener la práctica, antes te sentirás familiarizado con ellas. Se trata de convertir a los estudiantes de “conscientemente incompetentes” a “inconscientemente competentes” [...] Nada de esto habría sido posible sin un gran equipo. Juan Pablo lideró la parte de carpintería, asistido por Jordi y Nico. En el área de metal, Edu lideró el taller, asistido por Lucas y por mí. A medida que avanzaban los talleres, todo funcionaba cada vez más fluidamente, como un motor bien engrasado.” - @melyso Melyssa lleva poco más de ocho meses en TMDC. Descubrió el espacio durante su máster en New Materials en @elisava.school , donde su proyecto final la motivaron a postularse. Con formación en ilustración y diversas técnicas artesanales, su paso por TMDC le permitió descubrir su afinidad por el metal, transformando su enfoque creativo y expandiendo sus habilidades en materiales funcionales y sostenibles. Melissa, en colaboración con nuestro equipo, creó un nuevo curso de capacitación para nuestros estudiantes de Elisava. ¡Y estamos pensando en que también esté disponible para cualquiera al que le interese! 😉

รℓεερเɳɠ รµɳ A plump inflatable sun snoozing on the forest floor in Can Ribes, Girona, specially made as an installation for @rizomes_ to welcome the summer solstice. At the heart of it, this project is a celebration of yellow, the sun and the joy that it brings. With its bulbous form, it makes a cozy spot for people to hang out, play and maybe even share a serendipitous moment. At night it transforms into a glowing beacon for unlikely strangers to share secrets and laughter. The Sleeping Sun far exceeded my expectations at the festival and the reception from it, left my heart so full it could explode! The real beauty of the Sleeping Sun is in its materiality. The main material used was rip stop nylon, all of which are discarded from a local Catalan parachute company whose material stock is thoroughly inspected and those sheets that are deemed unsafe for flying are discarded. PVC banner was used for the base of the sun, these came from discarded ajuntament banners from cultural Barcelona events. All these materials are collected by Marcela for her brand @demanobcn , a boutique in Born selling high quality bags and other products made from these waste materials. Together, we created a partnership to turn these materials into this grand installation. Upcycling was the priority for this project as it is extremely important to me to be conscious in our choices when it comes to creating. The Sleeping Sun is not the end of the material timeline - after the festival ends, it will be deconstructed, cleaned and made back into more products with a focus on camping gear. A full circle and a continuation of the material timeline. Another thing to note is the compatibility of the installation - the entire sun folds down and rolls into a backpack. Making it easy to transport and to deploy on any site. Around the edge are loops for stakes to hold it down. The whole sun was made with the ideology and language of camping in mind - pack in pack out, holding everything on your back and not bringing more than you need. A glimpse into forging Damascus knives🩸🩸 my buddy at the workshop, Nigel the hunk the boulder the blacksmith, gave me a sweet little introduction into the teeeedious process! The patterns are so hypnotizing, so trippy. Started with 10 layers of steel, stacking and welding to make 40 and 120 layers. The smaller knife is Bowie Hunting knife with a chiseled walnut handle for that good whittling grip and getting the last bits of your barbecued ribs. PENDULUM, my final bamboo architecture model for a conceptual restaurant with suspended dining rooms, nestled in the jungles of South East Asia. Inspired by the silhouettes of hanging objects like gourds, baskets, angler fish bulbs and the pendulum weight they possess.
