🌕Farmers Market Update🌕
Last fall, we took time to look honestly at our numbers from the last few years and try to determine the patterns that data revealed. What we saw, and felt, is that we were spreading our labor and our products across too many sales channels. Deciding to pare down our sales for 2026 was a big moment and one that we had to approach practically. We want to continue to grow food and we want to do it in a way that does not sacrifice our quality of life. This means Mellowfields will not be doing any farmers markets this year.
The decision to drop markets in 2026 was filled with a lot of grief for us, as the farmers market is where we created our brand and first connected with so many of our customers. Over the years we have learned that staying a viable farm often requires the gumption to make decisions like this.
After making the decision to cut our markets and sitting with it now for a second, we still feel that it is the right move at this point in our lives. The farm feels manageable and we are still able to get good food out into the community through several different channels.
We will continue offering weekly vegetables through our Webstore, including the new Farm Share option. We will also increase the amount and variety we offer to The Merc co-op grocery and make our usual deliveries to Checkers grocery as well as many wonderful restaurants in Lawrence. We are also continuing our partnership with Full Circle Sustainability in Topeka which provides home delivery as well as a brick and mortar grocery.
Change is hard, but it is inevitable and ultimately helps keep us strong. We want to acknowledge and show our gratitude for all the connections we have made through the farmers market including customers, friends, and farming peers. Our farm is better because of those connections and we still believe farmers markets are an incredibly important place to celebrate and support the local food community.
In solidarity,
Jessi and Kevin

Sunny fall days are simply the best. Early this week, we pulled back the row covers that blanketed the farm during the cold snap and found that most things made it through the 20 degree low-except the baby bok choy (bye bye bok choy). So it was another big harvest. We will have tables full of vibrant, cold-sweetened goodness at both Lawrence and Brookside market tomorrow. The last Lawrence market will be 11/22. Brookside will continue indoors through most of December.
🥕Market season is still here! Our fields are bursting with good food and everyday is a good time for fresh veg.
🥕New this week: Napa Cabbage & Carrots! Plus salad greens, celery, potatoes, and even still beautiful peppers.
