We’re incredibly proud to share that 10 members of our Melchor team were named finalists in the 2026 WA Civil Construction Industry & Training Awards.
Being recognised across a broad range of categories, from Civil Tradesperson of the Year through to Engineer of the Year, is a true testament to the talent, dedication and hard work that exists across our business.
A special congratulations to Kaienua, who won Apprentice of the Year (General), and Georgia, who took out Safety Professional of the Year.
Congratulations to all our finalists on this well‑deserved recognition. Your commitment to learning, leadership and delivering quality outcomes continues to make a positive impact across our projects and our business.
Meet Lorrany, a Brazilian-born civil engineer turning her childhood dream of working on large-scale projects into reality.
After earning her master’s degree in steel structures at just 24, Lorrany spent several years living across five cities in Brazil before making the move to Australia in 2023. She joined Melchor in early 2024 and is now contributing her expertise to a project in Karratha.
“At Melchor I found a highly skilled, supportive and genuinely fun team. Thanks to that, the 14‑day swings somehow fly by.”
FIFO life demands discipline, but Lorrany thrives on routine, teamwork and the satisfaction of delivering complex projects.
As a woman in a male‑dominated field, she’s passionate about encouraging others to pursue engineering.
“Believe in yourself. Trust your potential. Work hard, stay open to learning and remember – it’s never too late to follow a path that fulfils you.”
We’re proud to have Lorrany on the team.
Meet Ned, one of Melchor’s talented Undergraduate Engineers, balancing a double degree in Engineering and Finance with a love for sport, music, and getting hands‑on on site.
Born in Darwin and now based in Perth, Ned joined Melchor in 2024 and hit the ground running.
For him, Melchor has been a launchpad for an exciting future, with no shortage of learning, real responsibility, and opportunities.
“What I enjoy most is the friendly and supportive community. Asking questions is encouraged, and you’re trusted with real, meaningful work.”
From on‑site inspections and material ordering to daily concrete sequencing and working closely with clients and supervisors, Ned’s days start early and move fast, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
One of his biggest lessons so far? Communication is everything.
“No one can do successful work alone. Communication and collaboration are everything.”
His advice to other students: “The team is professional, inviting and genuinely great to work with. The opportunities are diverse, and you learn something new every day.”
We’re proud to back Ned as he builds the foundations of a strong engineering career.
Huge congratulations to Mick on receiving the 2025 MATES Leadership Award! Mick goes above and beyond to support mental health on site and in the community — we’re proud to have him on the Melchor team.
Last month, the Melchor and Monos team at our newest project – Jimblebar TLO Replacement Project— came together with the incredible crew at MATES to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention. Collaborating with legends like Ess and Robyn is always a privilege, and opportunities like this remind us why these partnerships matter so much.
Across the day, we delivered:
2 sessions of General Awareness Training
A CONNECTOR Course
The outcome? Another 10 legends added to our growing network of mates who have the skills to keep someone safe and connect them to help — bringing our total to 77 connectors across sites in WA.
Seeing the passion and commitment of our people when it comes to looking after one another is truly humbling. Together, we’re building a culture where support, care, and connection are at the heart of everything we do.
We’re proud to announce that Kaienua has been named the 2025 recipient of the Kendall Worroll Rising Talent Award—a recognition that honours individuals who exemplify the very best of Melchor’s values and culture.
This award carries a special meaning. Once known simply as the “Rising Talent Award,” it has been renamed in memory of Kendall Worroll, who tragically passed away shortly after completing his apprenticeship with Melchor in 2022. Kendall was the very first recipient of this award, and his legacy continues to inspire us all. Renaming the award ensures his contribution, character, and spirit will always be remembered and celebrated across our business.
Kai was nominated by both his peers and leaders, a testament to the deep respect and admiration he’s earned across the business. Known for his unwavering reliability, accountability, and commitment to safety, Kai consistently sets the standard for what it means to be a true team player and leader on site.
Whether it’s stepping up to support his crew, maintaining high safety standards, or simply bringing a positive attitude to work each day, Kai embodies the values that make Melchor’s culture so strong. His dedication doesn’t go unnoticed—and this award is a reflection of the impact he’s made on those around him.
The Kendall Worroll Award is more than a recognition of performance—it’s a celebration of character, integrity, and the kind of leadership that lifts others. Kai’s humility, work ethic, and genuine care for his team make him a truly deserving recipient.
Congratulations, Kai!
This month, we hosted our annual Rising Talent Golf Day — a powerful tradition that brings together our apprentices, trainees, graduates, and undergraduates for a day of connection, reflection, and personal development alongside leaders from across the business.
We began with a grounding sound healing session led by the incredible Kali Collective, setting a tone of calm and connection. From there, we moved into an initiative close to our hearts – packing Dandelions WA school bags with essential supplies. This effort supports children in need, helping ensure they start the school year with dignity, equality, and the opportunity to thrive.
We had the privilege of welcoming special guest speaker Matt Priddis, who joined us to share his inspiring journey. With honesty and heart, he spoke about the importance of resilience, how he overcame challenges throughout his career, and took the time to thoughtfully answer questions from the team.
Then it was time to hit the green! Congratulations to our winning team — Martin, Zoran, Archie & Liam.
A special shoutout to Kai, recipient of the Kendall Worroll Rising Talent of the Year Award 2025 which we'll share more on (watch this space!)
This day wasn’t just about golf — it was about investing in the future, giving back to our community, and celebrating the incredible talent rising within Melchor.
Today’s Pink Ribbon Brunch was more than just bold blazers and rosy socks — it was a celebration of community, compassion, and giving.
We set out to raise $350 and ended up with $966! Every dollar supports breast cancer research and awareness.
Big shoutout to everyone who dressed up, donated, and dove into the Pink Quiz (congrats Jaco for the win 🏆). Together, we’re making a difference — one pink moment at a time
Trailblazers in Earthworks
Three years ago, Kane and Helen took a leap — becoming Melchor’s first-ever Civil Construction Plant Operations Apprentices
From their early days on the Covalent Project to working across FIFO, DIDO, and Perth Metro sites, they’ve done it all — Skid Steers, Rollers, Water Carts, Tip Trucks, even Diggers!
They’ve grown so much in their skills, confidence, and leadership — and set the standard for every Earthworks Apprentice who’ll follow in their footsteps.
Their boss Dirk put it best:
“Kane and Helen have been the heart of our Earthworks team — dedicated, humble, and always up for a challenge. They’ve truly set the benchmark.”
Huge congrats to both — we’re so proud of you!
Earlier this year, in line with our Talking Trowel initiative, we launched the Bi-Monthly Talking Trowel Champion Award.
This award recognises individuals who make a positive impact on the mental and emotional wellbeing of their teammates — whether by offering a listening ear, creating a supportive environment, or encouraging open conversations. These champions are helping us build a healthier and more connected workplace.
👏 Congratulations to our first two winners:
May-June: Amana Upu
July-August: Jefferson Jaramillo
Thank you both for leading the way and showing the power of care, support, and connection in our workplace.
Last month, we proudly celebrated Will achieving a huge milestone – completing his four-year Carpentry Apprenticeship with Melchor.
Balancing FIFO rosters across multiple projects while raising and supporting a young family is no small feat, but Will has done it with grit, professionalism and a “no fuss” attitude that’s earned the respect of his peers and leaders alike.
As Mick Ablett shared, “Will has been an absolute pleasure to have within the Rising Talent Team… more importantly, you will not meet a better role model as a person. His character is what sets him apart.”
Congratulations Will on this outstanding achievement. We’re excited to see what’s next for you and look forward to supporting you as you continue your journey with Melchor.
From Flying the Flag for our MATES to asking “R U OK?” — last week was all about showing support, sparking conversations, and looking out for one another.
Across our work sites throughout Western Australia, Melchor proudly raised our flags in honour of the valuable work MATES in Construction does to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention in our industry.
We'd also like to recognise and acknowledge the incredible efforts of Connectors, ASIST workers and volunteers in the industry that make all of the above happen and are changing lives.
These initiatives are a powerful reminder that every conversation counts, and every mate matters.
If you or someone you know is struggling, remember, help is always available. The MATES Helpline can be reached 24/7 at 1300 642 111.
