How do you make people feel heard in a city this big?
That was one of the most important conversations in this episode with Councilwoman Megan Kerr..
People don’t just want promises.
They want to know someone is actually listening.

“As we pull up to Somerset Park…”
What looks like simple street construction on Carson is actually a major safety improvement for families, kids, seniors, and public transit riders in the Fifth District.
Councilwoman Megan Kerr explains how new crosswalks, pedestrian islands, and flashing beacons are designed to make it safer for people trying to access Somerset Park and cross Carson safely.
“It’s not always the big flashy things… it’s a crosswalk that gets our kids safely where they need to be.”
A real look at how local infrastructure decisions impact everyday life in Long Beach.

“If someone’s baseline denies the humanity of my children… we can’t agree on policy.”
Councilwoman Megan Kerr got deeply personal when talking about values, LGBTQ families, and what representation means in Long Beach.
“Long Beach is diverse. Diversity is our superpower.”
I love this statement and could not agree more.
A powerful moment from this week’s conversation. 🎙️

“The Fifth District runs from the San Gabriel River to the LA River.”
Councilwoman Megan Kerr talks about what it really means to represent such a massive portion of Long Beach — from neighborhoods like Bixby Knolls and Cal Heights to communities along the city’s northern edge. All the way to the east side.
One district. 54000 stories. Countless needs.

Dropping tomorrow our interview with @megankerrlbc download and stream where you listen to podcast @worth_the_drive_podcast Her dad gave her one answer that changed everything:
“I don’t know… why don’t you?”
That moment led to years of serving people in Long Beach and eventually a life in public service.
A reminder that real change usually starts small.

Wedding photo alert! 📷 Part of my public service orientation story comes from work I did after graduating from @stanthonysaints . Swipe through for a wedding photo from 31 years ago.
I started my formal leadership journey as a school board member for the Long Beach Unified School District. The needs of children and families have always been at the heart of why I do what I do. No other singular institution has more impact on our community than our schools. I'm proud of the eight years that I served on the Board of Education, the work we were able to do, and that LBUSD continues to do. It is an extraordinary and diverse district that works to meet the needs of all students in every part of our community.
School board races are always important, but none more so in recent memory than the current race for the Board of Education seat in District 5, that spans east Long Beach, Lakewood and Bixby Highlands.
I unequivocally and enthusiastically support Diana Craighead for re-election. She has been of service to children and families in our community, from PTA to school board, for more than thirty years, and her tenure on the Board has been filled with much success and hard decisions that have always centered on student success. I saw her strong and thoughtful leadership firsthand for 8 years.
There's one candidate in the race whose beliefs and values are the opposite of the Long Beach that I know and love. That person is not a good fit for our community.
I strongly encourage voters in the district to vote for Diana Craighead for LBUSD District 5 Board of Education on the June 2nd ballot.
How lucky are we to have @fingerprintsmusic in our neighborhood! They have great staff, fun events, and incredible musicians all the time. Today I got to hear and meet @themilkcartonkids Joey & Kenny, long time favorites of our family. Check out their new album and get over to @fingerprintsmusic .
These are hot off the press! Text or email me if you'd like one for your yard or your window ([email protected]). Thank you for all the support! Feel free to share my info with anyone you think would like one. Happy Easter.
