Zombie!
George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead was recommended to me earlier this year and it blew me away. I’d avoided Romero’s films because I thought they lacked the raw grit of the original Night of the Living Dead, but Day didn’t need that.. it stands on its own. The cinematography, the soundtrack, and the practical effects are insane.
Dr. Logan became my favourite character, so I made this as a tribute. It’s hand drawn frame-by-frame as always, with extra post-compositing in After Effects and a 2.5D background to get that “on rails” track with the zombie.
Fun fact: the early version didn’t have a gun… adding it basically doubled production time, but worth it.

“Drip” is a poem written from the perspective of a stalagmite and stalactite, the rocks that form in caves from sediment drip. It’s a metaphor for the frustration and resentment felt by children. Of the impossible position we are born into. To have to feel grateful for existing. To exist only as a consequence of our parents’ sacrifice. From the perspective of the rock above it, on the other hand, they give everything to their children. They literally give them a part of themselves. An even more impossible position. To see the energy and sacrifice you give your children. To see the resources and minerals you give them without question leave you. Only to be seen as a nuisance. As children we are ungrateful for their sacrifices. Yet we acknowledge them. And the cycle continues.
Drip,
I give you a piece of me
Drip
I let you build off of me
I am the foundation
I give what I can
If you needed more I would take less,
If I could feed only one
It would be you
You are my legacy, you are me
Intrinsically,
I give
you
Me.
Splish.
How annoying,

Once you’re in a clearer headspace, you can start making plans to feel better by thinking without fear or panic.
Panic attacks are tough—they make you feel out of control and helpless. But with practice, you can find peace in your mind.

“Clever Girl.”
Did you know that the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park were not scientifically accurate? They weren’t the tall monsters everyone knows; in fact, they were about the size of a turkey and had feathers!
This is just a cute little animation of my version of a Velociraptor. I knew I wanted to have a go at designing my own raptor call, but it was harder than I thought. I recorded audio from my pug and my galah, mixed them with some other animals, but it’s not how I imagined it. Still happy with it, though. If you listen closely, you can hear some familiar sounds.

I spent way too long on this, but it was so much fun and I’m starting to learn Procreate Dreams!
I really struggled to get the right sound for the sucking part though, so I used a lynx deodorant can in my mouth to get the right effect.
