We make small batch furniture, and custom vacuum workholding fixtures make machining two-sided parts a more streamlined, efficient process. This specific fixture is designed for our Moto chair’s sculpted seat, and registration pins allow for a quick flipping operation to shape features on both sides.

Moto is all about the contrast of soft curves and crisp profiles. There are some deceptively complex geometries that underly its minimal final form, and we utilize fixtures throughout the process to ensure consistent outcomes. We make each Moto chair to order, in small batches, to find that sweet spot between the efficiency of mass-production and the care and quality of handcrafted furniture.

Moto. California highway culture and its love for motorcycles inspires the design of the Moto Chair. Subtle design elements are incorporated in a Scandinavian aesthetic to express the chair’s construction. In addition, the Moto Chair offers a clean look from the back, making it ideal for dining or simply an object in a considered space. Available in Blackened Ash, Walnut, and White Oak.

We engrave and hand-stamp each Colossal table before it heads out the door—a reminder that each piece is made to order in our San Francisco workshop.

Space is at a premium in our compact San Francisco workshop, so we have to get creative. A vertical workholding fixture extends the capabilities of our tooling by utilizing the space below the spoilboard—one of the many ways we produce an outsized output in a minimal footprint. In this operation, we are pocketing for a flush-mounted connection in one of the legs from our Colossal collection.

Colossal is a table collection available in a range of adaptable sizes and heights. In concept, it’s more of a diagram than a form—sturdy legs, thin top, and configurable to fit your needs. An archetypal table, Colossal feels modern and classical at the same time.

Using our rotary indexer, we sculpt each leg for our Colossal collection. Our in-house, small-batch production model allows for customization in the size and configuration of this versatile range of tables.

In a world where everything is formatted into 12 second digestible videos, a majority of the behind the scenes work ends up on the cutting room floor. Umlauf is a product that is months (years?) in the making, and design is an emergent process (at least for us). Some components make it into the final build; others evolve, change, inform. Process is both our how and why, and we love sharing it with curious minds. All of our products are made to order in our San Francisco workshop, and communicating that is integral to our story.

We’re big on jigs. Utilizing custom-designed workholding jigs extends the capabilities of our existing tooling. By focusing on high-quality, small-batch production, we’re able to manufacture an outsized output in a minimal footprint. Umlauf: 15”x21”x4”
