May 8 — I had a flight back to NY that afternoon and was rushing back to the apartment when I saw these students in banana costumes. Put down rough colors and finished it on the flight.

May 8 — It was the perfect sunny day. I saw a group of students outside Hallgrimskirkja celebrating the end of the school year. They hugged, took photos, and started a conga line.

MONTREAL — Last paintings from this trip + little moments. The puppet video’s one of my faves. Barnaby and Alexander did voices for every puppet on the stand. I put them on my hand but couldn’t summon a single funny voice so I just made them dance 😔 Found out a few hours later we were doing all this on NATIONAL PUPPET DAY!!!
LE PLONGEOIR — Saw these two talking and I couldn’t help but paint them. They looked at each other with so much care and attention. I couldn’t figure out their relationship — were they dating, reconnecting, figuring things out?
After a few hours, I spotted a couple hugging outside the bar for a long time. They were perfectly framed by the window and the light around them was beautiful. When they released from their hug, I realized it was the same couple I’d painted earlier.

Barnaby and I visited Montreal for a few days. We stayed at Alexander’s and he showed us around the city. We got drinks at this bar with a beautifully lit pool table. Barnaby pulled up a geography game on his phone. We played it for hours, passing it around as we sketched.
