At the heart of “Everybody’s Battling Something” is a simple truth. Everybody’s carrying something, even when it doesn’t show. The song appears as the tenth track on ‘Parts Work’ by @mechanicalriver , the recording project of Joel T. Hamilton. The track moves with an easy swing, drifting along on a bouncing piano line on the album.
For this live session, Hamilton is joined by Jeff Caldwell, reworking the song on acoustic guitars. The shift brings the performance closer, unveiling the song in an intimate, direct light. Filmed in front of the “I Love My Friends” mural at the former Hunter-Gatherer building on South Main Street, the session took place just weeks before the site’s demolition in June 2025.
Against that backdrop, the song’s message feels especially resonant.
Extra Chill interviewed Joel Hamilton of @mechanicalriver about 'Parts Work', their first full-length album since 2017
The album arrives October 18th with a show on the @chspourhouse main stage alongside The Shrimp Records Family Band featuring @namelessnumberhead plus Carrie Ann Hearst of @shovelsnrope
Read the full interview about Joel's creative process on Extra Chill today, and don’t miss this show next Saturday! 🥶
Gracious New Year lovely people real and artificial. Im growing to accept this passing of time experience. I think. They say growth comes in many forms. I grow out my hair to make room for my brane. Which needs space to keep all these dimensions in tact. How are you i love you. I have a lot of songs that I am excited to share and Im all but promising a minimum of 20 to be released in 2025. More details on that very soon! Keep kindness and be well please.
Hey music heads. There are a few MR videos that slipped thru the cracks over the years/never seen the light of day. I made this one with Chris Byler in NYC one summer. Hope you enjoy it. We had fun making it. Find it in its entirety by searching you tube. The song is called Pentagrate. 🙏

I wrote and tracked this song about 8 years ago. Its called Then I Was Born. Ive got a birth circle coming around and this song crowned on my radar today so i figured ill push it out.
Sunday is the completion of my second round of 20 units. My oldest has 10 and his might have about negative 20. My dad has 70. When T has 30 ill have 60 and he’ll have 90. Check out this song if you will and if you feel compelled come hear it live sunday at @chicofeos i’ll be making some sounds with a few friends from about 3 til 6 depending on dayliessavingstimes andall that and then who knowswhat.
I had the immense honor of performing this song with some of my most magical friends a few years ago at the @chsmusichall for one of the groundhog day shows and then again a couple years later at electric lady studios (need to find recording) because my precious friend @nkoci had charted it out for a choir in Brooklyn he was directing and sent me a recording of them performing which I did find and i’ll share some of here as well. Idk why it took me so long but here it is in its original form right after I wrote it. Or while I was catching it.
Thanks for riding this wave with me. I feel blessed 🙏🙇♂️
