@meanseattle is always a must when I visit Seattle because they mean business when it comes to craft sandwiches and excellent burgers. Their dry-aged double smash burger stacked in a Tribeca Challah Bun with American cheese, raw white onion, mayo, and house made yellow mustard and pickles is one of my all time favorite burgers. On this last trip, I got to tag along with Owner @oystermandan in his shiny Inca Gold 1969 Dodge A100 as he visited his purveyors. First stop was @bateauseattle where they butcher and dry age whole beef quarters. Dan uses the trimmings for his burgers, which they coarsely grind in house. Second stop was Q Bakery for banh mi buns which is used for some of the signature sandwiches, like the awesome Hama Hama Oyster Po’Boy which is filled with plump @hamahamaoysters

I had never even heard of a sardine sandwich before, so I had to film this one for Another Sandwich Show. I would have been happy filming any of the unique sandwiches (and of course the burger) at Mean Sandwich in Ballard, but this had to be the one. You get a whole tin of high quality Spanish Sardines from @matiz_foods along with cilantro, pickled celery root, pickled jalapeños, lettuce, lemon pepper mayo, and house made mustard.
But the one other ingredient kind of blew my mind that I’ve never encountered on a sandwich before - The Fried Lemons! Besides “bringing a bright, lemony flavor to the entire sandwich... the pectin in the lemon breaks down in the oil, and it’s got a great tooth to it” says @oystermandan
If you love a good tuna salad sandwich, this sandwich will show you how a sardines can be just as flavorful in a sandwich.
