What we did in our volunteer shift today —
🍅 Carry groceries from the street to indoors
🥬 Pack grocery bags
🥕 Arrange and move packed grocery bags
🥔 Distribute groceries to Asian elders

🤍 spent the week volunteering with @mealsforunity , a nonprofit uplifting vulnerable elderly asian communities through community and food
👵🏻 nearly 1 in 4 asian seniors in nyc live below the poverty line, and recent SNAP cuts made this month’s need even greater
🛒 checkout @sayweee_official if you have SNAP benefits or if you are in need of Asian groceries
💼 around half of meals for unity’s funding comes from corporate sponsorships, and they’re looking for more with giving tuesday on 12/2!
✨ sponsoring a session costs around $6k and most companies match donations

For AANHPI Month, we’re spotlighting organizations doing real work for our community.
Meals for Unity started in Manhattan’s Chinatown and has grown into a volunteer-led nonprofit helping feed the elderly and those facing food insecurity across New York City.
To date, they’ve made 27,750 meals, and this May we’re proud to collaborate with them and spotlight the people who keep showing up for Chinatown.
Community doesn’t keep going on its own, it keeps going because people care enough to show up.
