After 6 years researching, designing, planning and building, Weerianna reached that spiritual restoration moment with the final laying of the lawn on Friday.
A life changing milestone all lunatics with an obsession for a good restoration project will understand. The moment when the house is no longer full of sand, all you feel under foot is the velvet touch of soft buffalo, that pile of tools and building materials that is your daily visual to do list no longer staring back and Saturdays and Sundays are yours again.
It’s a very cool privilege to land at the right time and place to have the opportunity to pen the next chapter of this amazing old lady.
Owners and families past and present who were so generous with their memories and snippets of history, the various parties that help put the deal together and ultimately the local support entrusting us to get the right outcome and cheering it on.
Most all our amazing team of designers, builders and craftsmen. Some over decades now have been loyal supporters and mentors who helped us build up the capacity and experience to be mad enough to take this on.
The Weerianna team in particular have all shared in the blood, sweat and tears putting it all together over a challenging few years in the Whitehouse - we are forever grateful for the effort, attention and most of all friendship and good humour! You’re all legends - look forward to the new years barbie!. #trev #karl #scott George #yuika #emma #sandy #phil #wiz #nath #sammy #bundyno1sitedog #hammer #tristan #george #dave #jesus #john #andy #jun #mattyandthelads #gazza #rob #jayden #jake #paulo #tim #liam #tristanp #craig #cartsy

Weerianna’s grand central stair is one of our favourite parts of the home. The elegant spine which holds her all together.
Any great family home is a place of memories and adventures. One of our most cherished was the recent tale from a local gent recalling his favourite memory of Weerianna - the unbridled adrenaline rush of sliding down the balustrade at speed as a young teen fifty years earlier!
After removing over 1000 staples we gave the brass a light polish and timber a cocktail of oil and wax. Enough to give her a new lease without losing all those beautiful patinas from 125 years of adventures.
The stairwell is drenched in the northern light of Sir Talbot Hobbs beautiful arched window, one of a number of Sir Talbots signature lead lights, together with extensive turned jarrah and hand carved timber architraves and decorative trims - a nod to his family joinery business and the influence of the arts and craft movement.
In this latest chapter those arched and curved forms that have flowed through to the contemporary additions and detailing.
The bright lead light bullseye in the main oculus and feature blue @winckelmanstiles_official tessellated tile has inspired the plush and textured new @bremworth Galet in Indigo.
Still with the elegant creeks, groans and patina of a 125 year old but with a new luxe underfoot touch and the faint sound of a shrill teenager descending at speed!
Checking out the growth progress at the Peppermint Grove Residence. This round pool with a discreet pool isolation was a great addition to the newly renovated garden.

We love to hear it.
Designing a home with someone is such a special collaboration.
Working with Angie and Trent on @undies_beach_house was exactly that - an incredible experience which is so great to see come to fruition.
Helping guide the initial subdivision process, site selection, concept development, detailed design and all the way through to delivery.
It’s been a dream to work together with clients with such a great sense of vision, adventure and spades of personality and flare.
All the better to receive such kind thoughts from Angie and Trent. Thanks so much for having me as part of your journey. Enjoy!
Grand four metre high arches define the new western facade @weerianna forming the backdrop to the generous landscaped grounds.
A contemporary adaption of the Sir JJ Talbot Hobbs original decorative stairwell arch, the windows will restore the full volume of the verandah and reveal again the 125 year old jarrah structure.
Custom sun shades over upper arch windows will protect from the afternoon sun with a touch of theatre.
The facade will feature a beautiful bespoke deep curve clad, animating shadow and light through the afternoon. Designed by @meaghanwhitearchitect as a one off for @weerianna , expertly crafted by @franzbuildingsupplies
As construction approaches @weerianna we are turning our minds to the final material and colour selections.
From the original riverside elevation we’ve gone for some warm charcoal tones to really let that beautiful hand carved and laid limestone pop. Not quite the original deep green but we think it’s a true and shaper touch.
Swinging to the Leake Street elevation the replacement roof in the deep profile heritage galvanising will return some original materiality, with the attic dormers in clean pressed zinc for some subtle contemporary cues.
The new western facade picks up on the original creamy white pebble render for the restored 1930s facade with a nod to the remnant 1870s cottage footprint.
A textured timber facade will frame the new giant arches sized to the precise dimensions of Sir Talbot Hobbs original feature arch window to the main stairwell.
We love a good old school elevation for design testing and to fine tune our final selections.
After two years of research and design we are very excited to be underway @weerianna .
A thoughtful restoration of her 1890s bones returning the layout and many of the details long lost.
Later additions reinvigorated with a contemporary twist inspired by principal architect Sir JJ Talbot Hobbs.
All open in the round with generous landscaped grounds including the original horse stables reimagined as a garden studio retreat.
Trade and supplier collaborations welcome.
Follow the journey @weerianna
