Our founders Al and Virginia loved people especially the people of Texas. Their philanthropy crossed geography and spanned generations. In honor of 75 years of giving, we will be highlighting a few of the things that illustrate Al and Virginia’s unwavering belief that each of us can make a difference.
April is National Volunteer Month, and our team got their hands dirty for a great cause! 🌿 We had the honor of volunteering at Liberty Street Garden, an initiative rooted in restoration and community. This innovative partnership between The Meadows Foundation (@meadowsfoundation ), New Friends New Life (@newfriendsnewlife ), and Bonton Farms (@bontonfarms ) provides survivors of human trafficking a pathway to earn a living wage as they rebuild their lives.
Liberty Street Garden is located in Dallas’ Wilson Historic District. It features specialty produce sold at farmers’ markets, local restaurants, and throughout the community. Every seed planted is a step toward healing and economic independence.

Last week, over 30 Meadows Foundation staff members joined TCA at @cedarhillstatepark for a day of privet removal, donuts, and good laughs. These amazing volunteers removed 8 TRUCKLOADS of invasive privet, opening new views from the Park’s Recreation Hall to the lake through a freshly-opened forest understory. Privet chokes out native plants and destroys habitat for native wildlife, but this small patch of forest can finally soak up sunlight and breath again for the first time in years!
We are so grateful to the Meadows Foundation for showing up for Texas nature not just this week, but every week, through their continued support of TCA. The Meadows Foundation has generously provided TCA with office space in the Wilson Historic District for years, and has funded numerous TCA projects to help promote conservation across Texas. It was lovely to have a chance to show the Meadows team who we are, what we do, and how much we care, and we look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship.
