MEMBER SPOTLIGHT ✨ The Miami-Dade LGBTQ+ & Allied Chamber of Commerce is proud to spotlight Eugenio A. Duarte, Ph.D. — clinical psychologist, psychoanalyst, writer, podcaster, and proud Miami native. With private practices in Miami Beach and Coral Gables, Dr. Duarte provides psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapy for individuals and couples through a collaborative, relationship-focused approach grounded in emotional understanding and cultural attunement. His work specializes in gender and sexuality, eating and body image concerns, intimacy, and relational challenges. Dr. Duarte is also a published contributing author and the creator of the forthcoming psychotherapy podcast, Tell Me Why You’re Here. Can you feel lonely in a crowded room? 🍽️ Sometimes, the deepest void isn’t physical absence, but the “orphanhood of living bonds.” It’s that silence that fills the dining room when you are your true self; it’s having your family close by, but feeling like your identity is the elephant in the room that no one wants to mention. It is important to name it: this pain is not a whim. It is the natural response to an environment that, due to prejudice, chooses to be present in body but absent in soul. The cost of authenticity might feel incredibly high today. But remember this: the lack of family acceptance is external noise—a limitation of theirs, not a truth about who you are. Your value does not decrease just because they lack the capacity to see it or celebrate it. Grieving the family that “should have been” is the first step toward building the family you choose to have. The one that doesn’t ask you to crop yourself out just to fit into the photo.
