A little throwback to a project from a year ago working on a piece for 7-Eleven. This breakdown shows some of the work I did using matte painting and Unreal Engine to build parts of the environment. The shoot happened on a rainy day, so the challenge was to recreate that wet atmosphere — extending the scene with shrubs, road and ground while keeping the textures believable and reflective. Rain changes everything: the light, the contrast, the way surfaces react. Getting that wet look to blend naturally with the footage was the fun (and tricky) part of the process. Matte painting + Unreal Engine can be such a powerful combo when you need to extend a world while keeping it grounded in reality. Been testing real-time motion capture on MetaHuman with a toon shader in Unreal Engine and I’m kinda in love with how it moves 🖤 Stylised, expressive, and still grounded in real performance — this combo feels like such a sweet spot between animation and live action.
