We were honored to debut Ruben Ulises Rodriguez Montoya piece in CDMX, especially since this was Ruben's first unveiling of his work in native land, Mexico. Ascension is about transmuting fear into love and illuminating the truth in all of its pandemonium forms. Born 1989 in Parral, MX, Ruben Ulises Rodriguez Montoya’s lil monsters are a fantastic becoming that center around anthologies and social issues concerning border culture, abjection, and mestizaje. Aided by magical realism, nahualismo, Sci-Fi, and the labor of his family, his work hybridizes and creates parallels between land, the human, and the animal as a way to investigate the process in which violence eradicates, erases, and erodes communities of color. Ruben Ulises Rodriguez Montoya The tardigrade with one orifice and the angel Raphael come to shed light on the lovers, 2022 Lil mariachi souvenir sombrero (from cdmx with love), horn tips, pigmented silicone, rabbit pelt, large and small zip ties, straw hat sombrero brim, small Lil straw hats, polyform stolen from the pillows of the air B and B I’m currently staying ( I felt like a bird surreptitiously picking hair from a sleeping golden retriever to gather soft material for its nest).white t-shirt, twine. 22.8 x 11 x 17.3 Inches/ 58 x 28 x 44 cm
