Most MCS certified installers will move onto the redeveloped Scheme during 2026, with support from their installer certification body every step of the way. Wondering what to expect when your certification body invites you to start moving over? Take a look at our step-by-step overview above👆 More information about preparing to move over, as well as an interactive guide, can be found on the Redeveloped Installer Scheme section of our website.

Battery storage is quickly becoming one of the most popular technologies for homeowners on the MCS Scheme, in March alone, 6,346 battery systems were installed in the UK. Installations rose by 22% compared to February and were up 90% on the same time last year, bringing the total number of battery storage systems installed under the scheme to over 80,000. Pairing battery storage with solar panels allows you to store excess energy generated during the day and use it when you need it most. If you already have solar panels, or are thinking about installing them adding battery storage can help you get even more value from your system. With thousands of certified installers available, it’s never been easier to get started. Visit our battery storage webpage to find out more! *Data is correct as of 28 April

MCS Scheme Manager David Banner joined representatives from three installer certification bodies to discuss the redeveloped Scheme at Solar & Storage Live London. With the redeveloped installer Scheme now rolling out, the panellists explored how MCS' redevelopment will drive greater consumer demand, the strengthened approach to consumer protection, and an update on the application process for installers. Lindsay from NAPIT said that “Installers moving over has been steady, but we are finding some installers are more ready than others. So, we urge you to make yourself aware of the changes, MCS has issued guidance that will help.” Installers currently on the MCS Scheme can find everything they need to know about moving to the redeveloped Scheme and how to get prepared in our free interactive guide on our website. @solarstoragelive_uk @officialnapit_ @the_iaa_uk @officialniceic

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has announced further measures to support households in making the switch to renewable energy. The key measures announced yesterday include: •A temporary increase to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant for properties heated by oil and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), taking the total grant to £9,000. More details on timings are expected soon. •An additional £100 million funding for the Social Housing Fund to support the delivery of solar and battery installations. •A commitment to consulting on changes to permitted development rights for heat pumps, such as extending to non-domestic buildings, amending some siting restrictions, and seeking views on how to enable more installations in flats. •New funding to build and expand heat pump factories in the UK, alongside extra investment in the Heat Pump Ready scheme to help companies design and test new, market-ready heat pumps As demand for small-scale renewables increases, so does the importance of certification in giving households the confidence they need to invest in home-grown energy. #Government #Funding #Renewables @energygovuk

MCS has made progress towards bringing air-to-air heat pumps into the Scheme, which will allow installers to become certified for the technology. Air-to-air heat pumps provide cooling as well as heating and can be more accessible for those living in smaller homes or flats. They will also soon be eligible for funding under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). These updates reflect our commitment to giving everyone the confidence they need to invest in home-grown energy and ensuring our installer base has the technical expertise to deliver high-quality installations.
