It's annoying I didn't get any final shots of this model, also made for @lockwoodfilm 's rewilding documentary, so here it is *nearly* finished instead.
This diorama shows the same location as the ancient forest model, but in the present day. The trees have gone, the river has been straightened into a drain and a factory farm has been built. The roof of the largest shed lifts off to reveal an intensive pig rearing facility and the brutal conditions these animals are kept in.
I had fun thinking about how to illustrate terrible farming practices. The hedges are over-flailed and gappy, the bare ploughed field allows soil and nutrients to be washed away in the winter rain, the slurry tank leaks into the watercourse.
I'll post a making of reel soon and hopefully I can get some better footage of the finished model as well!

Some BTS of this model landscape I've been making for a new documentary about rewilding by @lockwoodfilm
Making the trees took WEEKS, even with help. Most are made of twisted wire dipped in latex, then bits of pan scrubber were hot glued on to make the structure of the canopy.
The base is made from polystyrene covered with a type of plaster called sculptamould, then painted and covered with either static grass or 'leaf litter' (the contents of teabags, lol).
Ngl pouring the resin river was stressful, if it failed I would have had to redo the entire model π¬

Just finished this little side project I've been working on: a scale model landscape for an upcoming documentary film by @lockwoodfilm , imagining what England might have looked like when it was wild and wolves roamed the countryside.
Also made a second model imagining the same landscape in the present day, with all the trees cut down and a massive factory farm in their place. Will leave that for a second post!

1. Another day another homestay
2. Ladakhi farming
3. An actual wolf trap π³
4. Ponies to carry our big bags π€«
5. Us.
6. Cows.
7-8. Base camp at 4800m, ready for the big climb tomorrow. Cold. Thin air. Unfun.
Holiday pics incoming... first day of our hike in Ladakh, India. Stayed with a family overnight at this farm where apart from a solar light nothing has changed in about 200 years. Eight hours to the nearest road so everything is brought in by donkey (that's my bro in the pics not me)
