Ancient weevil 😆 #WeevilWednesday Si weevil memiliki hubungan simbiosis mutualisme dengan tumbuhan kecil (lumut/ganggang) yang tumbuh di badanya. 1. Keuntungan bagi weevil: Lumut, ganggang, dan lumut kerak (lichen) yang tumbuh di punggungnya berfungsi sebagai kamuflase yang sempurna. Di tengah hutan yang lembap, tubuhnya akan terlihat persis seperti ranting atau batang pohon yang berlumut, sehingga ia terhindar dari pemangsa seperti burung atau kadal. 2. Keuntungan lumut: Lumut/gangang tersebut mendapatkan "kendaraan" gratis untuk berpindah tempat (mobilitas), mendapatkan akses ke nutrisi, serta habitat yang stabil untuk tumbuh. 🇬🇧This weevil has a mutualistic symbiotic relationship with small plants (moss/algae) that grow on its body. 1. It's only about a 20-minute drive from my house. I was actually just scouting the area to see if it's a good spot for macro hunting, and out of nowhere, I spotted this horned frog! It was quite a big one too, around 7-8cm long. A friend told me they are super calm if you approach them slowly, and he was totally right. Dunia serangga menyimpan keragaman yang kerap luput dari perhatian, meski perannya menopang kehidupan di Bumi. Pagi itu, di tengah udara yang masih menggigit, saya menjumpai realitas tersebut pada wujud seekor kupu-kupu Skipper (Hesperiidae) yang tengah terdiam kaku di atas dedaunan. Butiran embun pagi yang menyelimuti sekujur tubuh dan sayapnya mungkin terlihat bak hamparan permata indah bagi mata kita. Namun, bagi makhluk sekecil ini, embun tersebut adalah beban berat yang mengikatnya ke bumi. Ia tidak bisa mengudara. Dalam keheningan, ia harus bersabar menunggu kehangatan mentari menyentuh sayapnya, menguapkan embun tersebut, sebelum akhirnya bisa kembali terbang. Momen observasi murni tanpa intervensi ini menyadarkan saya pada satu hal: serangga-serangga kecil ini menjalani pertarungan hidup yang tidak mudah setiap harinya. Kehilangannya mengungkap betapa rapuhnya jaring kehidupan yang selama ini bergantung pada keberadaan makhluk-makhluk kecil tersebut. Skipper mungkin kerap diabaikan karena ukurannya yang mungil dan warnanya yang tak semencolok kupu-kupu lain. Padahal, ia memiliki fungsi ekologisnya sendiri sebagai agen penyerbuk liar yang tak kenal lelah. So excited to share this! This is my very first time successfully photographing a Katydid (Tettigoniidae family) up this close. This shot really opened my eyes. Look at those fine spots on its face, the mesmerizing compound eyes, and complex mouthparts at the bottom🤩 Don't miss the video on the final slide to see this katydid in its actual nymph stage.
